Description
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED REQUESTS [001] This application claims the benefit of Provisional Application in U.S. 62/519,657, filed June 14, 2017. All disclosure of the above application is incorporated herein by reference. FIELD [002] The present disclosure relates to analyzing colors from a social media platform and, more particularly, color selection based on colors retrieved from images analyzed on a social media platform. BACKGROUND [003] This section provides background information relating to the present disclosure, which is not necessarily prior art. [004] Consumers typically initiate a new painting project due to a desire for change. This usually results from wanting a new look, wanting to change the feel of a room, being tired of the old look, boredom, seeing an interior elsewhere, for example, a home visit, a friend's house, a magazine photo, etc. [005] The process of painting at home typically begins with color selection, which can be an emotional part of the process. Many consumers are concerned about making a mistake in the color selection process. Consequently, the color selection process can take from several months to years to complete as the user decides on a color choice. [006] Current color selection systems allow a consumer to browse and electronically select specific colors using, for example, a kiosk, a website, a web application, a mobile application, etc. For example, a color coordination and selection system that allows the user to select an initial color and provides colors in coordination with the initial color is described in U.S. Patent 7,230,629, entitled “Data-driven color coordinator,” which is incorporated herein by reference. By further example, an automated method and apparatus for providing color selection capability is described in U.S. Patent 9,530,163, entitled “Automated Color Selection Method and Apparatus,” which is also incorporated herein by reference. SUMMARY [007] This section provides a general summary of the disclosure, and is not a comprehensive disclosure of its entire scope or all of its functions. [008] The present disclosure provides a system comprising a mobile device that has a mobile application configured to access a social media platform, retrieve a plurality of images from the social media platform, determine a dominant color for each image from the plurality of images, determine an ink color that most closely matches the dominant color for each image, and display at least one of a color name and a color code associated with the ink color that most closely matches the dominant color for each image. [009] In some configurations, the mobile application is additionally configured to determine and display a plurality of ink colors in coordination with the ink color that most closely matches the dominant color for each image. [010] In some configurations, the mobile application is additionally configured to enable a user to select a color other than the dominant color for an image from a plurality of images, to determine a color that most closely matches the different color, and to display at least one of a color name and a color code associated with the color that most closely matches the different color. [011] In some configurations, the mobile app is additionally configured to upload an image that includes the ink color that most closely matches the dominant color for each image to the social media platform. [012] In some configurations, the mobile application is additionally configured to receive a selection of a particular image from a plurality of images, identify an object displayed in the particular image, and store the identified object. [013] In another form, the present disclosure provides a method that includes retrieving, with a mobile device that has a mobile application configured to access a social media platform, a plurality of images from the social media platform. The method also includes determining, with the mobile device, a dominant color for each image in the plurality of images. The method also includes determining, with the mobile device, an ink color that most closely matches the dominant color for each image. The method also includes displaying, with the mobile device, at least one of a color name and a color code associated with the ink color that most closely matches the dominant color for each image. [014] In some configurations, the method additionally comprises determining and displaying, with the mobile device, a plurality of ink colors in coordination with the ink color that most closely matches the dominant color for each image.
