BR-102023000127-B1 - Monoblock universal axle rim
Abstract
MONOBLOCK UNIVERSAL AXLE RIM. The invention belongs to the wheel and caster sector and refers to a rim that is injection molded in a single piece, with axle change accessories injected around the center or on the outside of the rim in a single injection. Each injection produces, in addition to the rim and axle change accessories, spacers and any locking devices, caps, or finishes. For solid or flexible solid tires, the monoblock model can be used, but for some models a split rim is used based on the same injection solution for the accessories in the rim, which can be injected in the same mold, even without being welded and connected to the rim.

Description
Technological sector of invention [01] The present invention belongs to the wheel and caster sector and refers, more specifically, to a one-piece universal axle rim that is capable of adapting to a wide variety of wheelbarrow axles, wheelchair wheels, and other wheels and casters. The rim is injection molded in a single piece, and the axles are injection molded in the center or on the outside of the rim, in the same injection. Thus, each injection produces, in addition to the rim, the axle change accessories, spacers and any locking devices, caps or finishes. State of the art [02] A wheelbarrow is a small, human-powered tipper used to transport weights, usually earth or sand, in construction. Also used on farms or in gardens, the wheelbarrow facilitates the movement of loads that may be heavy or simply cumbersome. It consists of one wheel and two handles, and the center of gravity is near the wheel. [03] It is worth highlighting that not only in Brazil, but in several other countries, the axle of wheelbarrows, wheelchairs and various other similar vehicles that use wheels and casters is not standardized. Therefore, a consumer may buy a cart, but when they need to change the wheel or tire they cannot always find the wheel with the correct axle from the cart manufacturer. [04] When a consumer buys a wheelbarrow, they are looking for a transport vehicle to assist in their daily work. Since it is very common for wheelbarrow tires to puncture, some construction professionals are more familiar with and knowledgeable about the different axle dimensions, for example 1", 3/4" or 1/2"; in the European model, 25mm, 17mm and 13mm are used. The average user is not so familiar with this information, therefore, when needing to replace a wheel or tire, being able to find a universal rim provides more security to the user, knowing that it will fit 70 to 100% of wheelbarrows on the market, depending on the country where it is sold. This concept already exists and is on the market, but it is not applied to rims with bearings, and it is not injection molded in a single block. [05] A study was conducted to verify the state of the art, and it was concluded that the patent literature contributes little to solutions for promoting universal axles for rims with bearings. Only documents anticipating the use of accessories (bushings) to reinforce the wheel structure and assist in axle fixation were found. In US20040135333, US20040041462 and BR202014001166-3 it is clear that the bushings do not have the function of allowing the use of axles of different diameters, they only assist in axle adjustment, reinforce the structure and assist in bearing lubrication. The installation of the bushings is done by pressure or fittings, allowing easy replacement of the bushing when necessary. The bushings can be made of metallic material as in US20040135333, or of plastic as shown by US20040041462 and BR202014001166-3. New features and objectives of the invention [06] In this context, the one-piece injected universal axle rim is presented, where accessory parts for adjusting the wheel axle diameter are injected into the rim itself, in a single injection process. [07] This feature ensures a reduction in the cost of manufacturing the rim, therefore a lower energy consumption for its manufacture, also eliminating the need for other materials in the rim packaging to store the accessory kit, thus making it a more sustainable product, in addition to being able to bring the benefit to the consumer at a lower cost. [08] The purpose of the invention is to change the diameter of the axle simply by removing the desired accessory that is fixed to the rim itself (with the aid of cutting tools or by hand) and fitting it onto the rim axle (by clipping, pressing, forced fitting - using a hammer, hammering the accessories onto the axle, threading or other form of fitting). [09] In forced and press-fit fittings, axle change fittings may have a slight positive angle, and the wheel axle may have a negative angle, thus allowing for a more robust fixation, preventing the fitting from slipping or coming off the axle in a turn or after receiving a stronger impact. [10] Negative angle in injection is when a negative angle is intentionally placed in the direction of extraction, and by means of floating plates, slides or collapsible jaws it is possible to extract the part from the mold, and in this case ensure a more secure fit of the accessory on the axis. [11] In addition to the plastic axle, the one-piece universal axle rim also allows for the fitting of ball bearings, cylinders or roller bearings into the rim. The bearings are preferably fitted into the rim by clipping, but they can be screwed in with the aid of a metal or plastic plug, as well as adapting other known fitting solutions. [12] The one-piece universal axle rim has a system for changing inserts in the mold that allows the product to be manufactured with a plastic axle (in various diameters, for example: 1’’,
