Description
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED ORDERS [0001] This Patent Application claims priority to International Application No. PCT/CN2016/108346, filed on December 2, 2016, which is assigned to the assignee of this application and is expressly incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. INTRODUCTION [0002] Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to wireless communication systems, and more specifically, to the transmission of channel state information reference (CSI) signals (CSI-RSs) in a wireless network on new radio (NR). [0003] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various telecommunication services, such as telephony, video, data, message exchange, and broadcast. Typical wireless communication systems may utilize multiple access technologies capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (such as bandwidth and transmission power). Examples of such multiple access technologies include Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems, Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) systems, Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) systems, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems, Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SCFDMA) systems, and Synchronous Time Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) systems. [0004] A wireless communication network may include a series of Nodes B that can support communication to a series of user equipment (UEs). A UE can communicate with a Node B via downlink and uplink. The downlink (or forward link) refers to the communication link from Node B to UE, and the uplink (or reverse link) refers to the communication link from UE to Node B. [0005] These multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunications standards to provide a common protocol that allows different wireless devices to communicate at a municipal, national, regional, and even global level. An example of an emerging telecommunications standard is New Radio (NR, e.g., 5G radio access). NR is a set of enhancements to the LTE mobile standard promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). It is designed to better support mobile broadband internet access by improving spectral efficiency, reducing costs, improving services, making use of new spectrum, and better integrating with other open standards that use OFDMA with a cyclic prefix (CP) on the downlink (DL) and uplink (UL), as well as supporting beamforming, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology, and carrier aggregation. However, as the demand for mobile broadband access continues to increase, there is a need for further improvement in NR technology. Ideally, these improvements should be applicable to other multiple access technologies and to the telecommunications standards that use these technologies.
