Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a system for communicating health data in a healthcare setting according to the preamble of claim 1, and to a method for communicating health data in a healthcare setting. [0002] A system of this type comprises a communication network for communicating health data in the healthcare environment. A recording device in this respect serves to transfer health data through the communication network, and a receiving device serves to receive the health data from the recording device through a communication channel of the communication network. [0003] Typically, in a healthcare setting, such as a hospital, various patient care devices, for example, infusion devices for administering medication to patients, are operated in different locations within the healthcare setting, for example, in different departments (such as general wards, intensive care units, emergency departments, and the like) and in different rooms within those departments, for example, at the bedside of different patients. Such patient care devices typically operate independently and produce data, for example, related to infusion operations that have been performed or are in progress, which at least in part must be transferred as health data, for example, to a hospital information system (HIS). [0004] Within a hospital communication network, patient care devices are typically connected to a gateway device, for example, which pre-processes health data received from the patient care devices to transfer the health data to the hospital information system. [0005] The hospital information system in general should be understood as a set of information processing systems for collecting, processing, and distributing medical and administrative data in a hospital. The hospital information system comprises, in particular, one or more servers that serve to receive and process health data to provide health data to users, for example, who can access the hospital information system internally in the hospital from stationary workstations or using mobile communication devices such as tablet computers or smartphones. [0006] A hospital information system may in particular comprise or serve as a patient data monitoring system (PDMS, commonly used in Europe) or electronic medical record (EMR, commonly used, for example, in the United States), to collect and process patient-related information. From a technical point of view, EMR generally refers to a permanent database, while PDMS refers to an end-user interface displayed at the patient's bedside. As an overlying architectural concept, the hospital information system (HIS) provides a global system architecture for interconnecting medical devices, PDMS/EMR databases, and mobile communication devices across the hospital network (whether wired or wireless). [0007] To connect a server of a hospital information system/patient data monitoring system to a healthcare environment's communication network, a statically configured connection is conventionally used. Therefore, before interacting with the communication network, the server and the network, in particular a gateway to send outgoing health data to the server, must be configured, in which the server remains statically connected to the network. The configuration is typically performed manually by an IT administrator and may lead to service interruptions for other systems. [0008] Furthermore, with conventional configurations, a redundancy scheme to provide a backup in case of failure of a hospital information system server can be difficult, as it can increase data traffic and may require specific additional network hardware. [0009] It is an object of the present invention to provide a system and a method for communicating health data in a healthcare environment, which can allow easy connection of a receiving device to a network with the possibility of reducing data load and improving backup handling. [0010] This objective is achieved by a system for communicating health data in a healthcare setting comprising the features of claim 1. [0011] Consequently, the receiving device, in order to receive health data from the recording device, is configured to send an enrollment request message, containing an enrollment request to the reporting device, and the reporting device is configured, upon receiving the enrollment request message, to validate the enrollment request and establish the communication channel to transfer health data to the receiving device. [0012] A communication channel for transferring health data from the registration device to the receiving device, therefore it can be dynamically configured upon a registration request by the receiving device. The establishment of the communication channel is initiated by the registration request message sent from the receiving device to the registration device, in which the registration device validates the registration request contained in the registration request message and, upon success
