Description

[001] The present invention relates to a hot foil stamping press with a pressing table over which a sheet can advance, a pressing system for pressing a sheet onto the plate, a guide system for guiding a sheet over the plate, the guide system defining a sheet transport path that extends through the path along which the sheet is being advanced, a support for receiving sheet feed and a system for discarding the used sheet. [002] The plate can be made of cardboard or paper, and the sheet is either a sheet of metallized plastic or a thin sheet of metal. The pressing system presses the sheet onto the surface of the plate so that part of the sheet is transferred to the plate where it adheres. [003] The sheet is normally supplied in the form of a roll on a reel. The portion of the sheet used is normally rewound onto another reel. [004] As rewinding is critical to a certain extent, it needs more intervention and therefore the waste sheet disposal system is located at the front of the machine, on the operator's side, while the sheet feed is located at the rear of the machine, opposite the operator's side. [005] The objective of the invention is to reduce the amount of effort required by an operator to operate the machine. [006] To this end, the invention provides in a machine such as defined above that the support is placed on one side of the press operator. The main advantage of a hot foil stamping press with this design is that the operator does not need to bring the new foil to the back of the machine if it needs to be replaced. [007] According to one aspect of the invention, the disposal system comprises a brush system for removing the used sheet from the press. It is also possible that the disposal system comprises a waste sheet container. Thus, the invention uses an entirely new concept for disposing of the used sheet. In the prior art, the used sheet is rewound onto a reel. As the used sheet cannot be easily rewound, intervention is often necessary. If there is a more serious problem, the machine operation must be stopped so that the operator can remove the waste sheet. According to the invention, the waste sheet is now simply removed from the machine and no longer rewound, but simply discarded. No operator intervention is required to ensure that the waste sheet is properly rewound. [008] According to another aspect of the invention, a blower is provided to separate the sheet from the plate, the blower being disposed next to the discharge system. The blower can thus act on the used sheet. Consequently, the blower settings are much less critical than with a prior art design of the machine, where it acts on the new sheet; with the new design, any damage that occurs to the sheet due to the operation of the blower occurs to the used sheet. [009] The pressing system preferably comprises a cylinder system. [0010] The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the drawings, [0011] Figure 1 is a schematic view of part of a hot foil stamping press with the configuration according to the invention; and [0012] Figure 2 is a schematic side view of the hot foil stamping press shown in Figure 1. [0013] In Figures 1 and 2, the essential parts of a hot foil stamping press are shown. It comprises a pressing table 10 over which a sheet, in particular consisting of paper or cardboard, can advance along a feed direction F. In Figure 2, the feed direction is perpendicular to the plane of the cross-section. The sheet advanced in the feed direction F is not shown here for clarity. [0014] A support 11 shown schematically is provided to support a sheet 14 feed 12. The feed 12 may be in the form of a roll or reel onto which the sheet 14 is wound. [0015] Feed 12 is located on a front side of the machine (referred to as the operator side, “OS”). The front or operator side of the machine is the side where the control elements used to adjust the machine settings are located. [0016] Sheet 14 is a thin sheet of plastic that has been metallized, or a thin sheet of metal. With the hot sheet stamping press, certain portions of the sheet are applied to the plate. [0017] As can be seen in Figures 1 and 2, a second sheet 16 can also be provided. [0018] Sheet 14 is guided over the plate by means of a guide system comprising a plurality of rollers 18. It is essential that the sheet be guided over the plate in a direction that is transverse and, in particular, perpendicular to the feed direction F of the plate (see the orientation of arrow A in the press table region 10, with arrow A designating the direction in which the sheet is advanced over the press table). [0019] To press sheet 14 onto the plate and to make part of the sheet adhere to the plate, a pressing system is provided which is schematically shown in Figure 2 with the reference number 20. The pressing system 20 comprises a cylinder press. [0020] At the rear of the machine, on the opposite side from the operator (“OOS”), a waste sheet disposal system 22
