Abstract

This utility model is a forceps that improves the cutting of IUD threads, overcoming limitations of conventional instruments. Composed of (1) two stainless steel parts, (2) joined by a joint and having at one end (4) handling rings and at the opposite end (5) 10 mm (ten millimeters) cutting blades, upper and lower, which provide a uniform and precise cut without slipping of the double Nylon threads present in the IUD and keep it in the correct position.

Description

Field of invention [001] The present Utility Model is a clamp with two handles joined by means of a joint and a pressure lever, fitting into the field of medical and surgical instruments. Fundamentals of the invention [002] Known forceps work according to the principle of pressing or grasping, all of them directed to the function of grasping and holding visceral organs or tissues. They consist of two joined handles that move reciprocally around the same fixed point of rotation. In this way, the grasping tips do not slip against each other, so that one touches the other at a point (grasp point). When the forceps closes at the grasp point, there is no cutting, only the grasping of a structure, an organic tissue. [003] When cutting is necessary, the double nylon threads offer resistance, and the physiological secretion of the vaginal canal increases the difficulty of securing conventional cutting instruments, such as surgical scissors, which have characteristics that cause the threads to slip along the blade when the professional attempts to cut the double nylon threads. Often, the procedure is unsuccessful, requiring several attempts to cut the double nylon threads of the IUD. [004] Furthermore, using conventional cutting instruments, during the cutting of the double Nylon threads of the IUD, the vaginal canal may be cut to different sizes, and, accidentally, due to difficulty in performing the cutting action, the IUD may be displaced from its ideal intrauterine position. [005] This problem is solved by adapting the function of cutting the double Nylon thread by means of a tip with upper and lower cutting edge (upper and lower cutting blade). [006] The proposed utility model has the basic task of cutting threads made of Nylon material, components in the Intrauterine Device (IUD), uniformly throughout its circumference, without slippage and tearing of the double Nylon threads. [007] The advantage of the present utility model is that the thread-like material to be cut, the double Nylon thread of the IUD, can be cut along its entire circumference without pinching or tearing in the vaginal canal or cervix. Thus, the thread does not slip or slide during cutting between the cutting blades as happens with the use of conventional scissors, safely and uniformly separating the double Nylon threads that will be cut to the same length. [008] Good cutting results are achieved when there is a movable pressure lever between one handle and the other of the forceps to create ideal pressure for cutting the double nylon threads of the IUD, preventing slippage and tearing of the IUD, keeping it in the correct uterine position. [009] The use of the utility model makes the process (steps of IUD insertion) faster and more precise. During the cutting step of the double nylon thread, which must be 2 (two) to 3 (three) centimeters from the cervix. When this step is performed with conventional cutting scissors, often, due to the physiological secretions present in the vaginal canal, the cut can present problems due to the thread slipping between the blades of the scissors, in addition to the risk of pulling out the IUD inserted in the uterine cavity. Cutting the double nylon thread of the IUD must be an extremely precise procedure (step), because after the procedure is finished, the length of the IUD threads in relation to the cervix must be recorded in the medical record. This parameter is important to assess the correct location of the IUD in the uterine cavity and to make the use of the IUD safer and more precise. [010] The cutting forceps for double Nylon IUD threads is made of sterilizable stainless steel, measuring 20 (twenty) centimeters in length, and consists of two parts that are joined by a rotating pin/point that allows the two parts to be opened to perform the cutting movement. [011] For adequate precision and force, the utility model also features a movable pressure lever that creates a force gradient sufficient for precise cutting without the risk of pinching and allowing sliding between the cutting blades of the invention's gripper. Brief description of the drawings [012] To elucidate and explain the properties of the present invention, the attached drawings complement and support this descriptive report, observing the following: Figure 1 - Top view of the device. Figure 2 - Close-up view of the side of the cutting blade. Figure 3 - Close-up view of the front of the cutting blade. Description of the invention [013] The utility model presented consists of a (1) 20 cm (twenty centimeters) stainless steel articulated clamp, composed of two parts joined by a (2) articulation pin. The inner part of the (1) articulated clamp has a (3) pressure lever, at one end (4) handling rings and at the opposite end a (5) 10 mm (ten millimeters) cutting blade.
