Abstract
The application relates to a virtual SIM for a vehicle. A method includes identifying a user, obtaining a user profile matching an identity of the user, wherein the user profile includes SIM data associated with an operator plan, assigning the SIM data associated with the operator plan of the obtained user profile to a data communication module to virtually replicate the SIM data of the user, and restoring operator settings of the data communication module to original settings based on the user being no longer identifiable.

The method of claim 1, further comprising: Identifying a second user; obtaining a second user profile matching an identity of a second user, wherein the second user profile includes SIM data associated with a second user operator plan; Assigning the obtained SIM data of the second user profile associated with the second user operator plan to a data communication module to virtually copy both the SIM data of the first user and the SIM data of the second user; configuring operator settings of a data communication module such that the data communication module does not virtually replicate the SIM data of the first user based on the first user no longer being identifiable, and The operator settings of the data communication module are configured such that the data communication module does not virtually replicate the SIM data of the second user based on the second user no longer being identifiable.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein identifying the first user comprises: Capturing an image of the first user using one or more of an onboard camera and a device camera, and The image of the first user is compared to one or more images stored in a database.
- 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising: Presenting an option to set operator settings of the data communication module to replicate SIM data of the first user based on an operator plan associated with the obtained first user profile; receiving a first user selection indicating whether operator settings are set to copy SIM data of the first user, and Setting operator settings to replicate the first user's SIM data based on the received first user selection, Wherein the first user is presented with options to set operator settings using a display of the first user's portable device.
- 8. A system for virtually replicating a SIM of a subscriber, comprising: Data communication module, and The controller is used for controlling the operation of the controller, the controller is configured to: identifying a first user of the vehicle using one or more of biometric, speech recognition, and image recognition; The identification of the first user is sent to a server; Obtaining a first user profile of the first user from a server, the first user profile being associated with an identity of the first user, wherein the first user profile includes SIM data associated with an operator plan; Distributing the obtained SIM data of the first user profile associated with the operator plan to a data communication module of the vehicle to virtually replicate the SIM data of the first user, and The operator setting of the data communication module is restored to the original setting based on the first user no longer being identifiable by the vehicle.
- 9. A vehicle, comprising: Data communication module, and The controller is used for controlling the operation of the controller, the controller is configured to: assigning SIM data associated with the original equipment manufacturer operator plan to the data communication module; identifying a first user of the vehicle using one or more of biometric, speech recognition, and image recognition; The identification of the first user is sent to a server; Obtaining a first user profile of the first user from a server, the first user profile being associated with an identity of the first user, wherein the first user profile includes SIM data associated with an operator plan; distributing the obtained SIM data of the first user profile associated with the operator plan to a data communication module of the vehicle to virtually replicate the SIM data of the first user, and The operator settings of the data communication module are restored based on the first user no longer being identifiable by the vehicle.
Description
Virtual SIM for vehicle Technical Field The present specification relates generally to methods and systems for mobile pairing (swinning), and more particularly to methods and systems for moving a pairing of vehicles with operator settings of a user based on a user's profile. Background Currently, users sharing vehicles (e.g., customers of a carpool or automobile sharing service) must pair devices (e.g., mobile devices, smartphones, etc.) with the vehicle using a bluetooth connection in a multi-step process to place and receive phone calls using the bluetooth hands free protocol ("HFP"). When connected through a bluetooth HFP, data associated with a call made in a vehicle (e.g., using the hands-free system of the vehicle) must be routed to and from the device through the bluetooth pairing. Such separate pairing is required in each vehicle that the user wants to use to send or receive cellular data. Pairing the user's cellular telephone with each vehicle that the user may access alone can be cumbersome and unnecessarily overexposure the user's data. Accordingly, a new architecture for accessing and using cellular data of customers while in a shared vehicle may be needed. Disclosure of Invention In one embodiment, a method includes identifying a user, obtaining a user profile matching an identity of the user, wherein the user profile includes SIM data associated with an operator plan, assigning the SIM data associated with the operator plan of the obtained user profile to a data communication module to virtually replicate the SIM data of the user, and restoring operator settings of the data communication module to original settings based on the user no longer being identifiable. In another embodiment, a vehicle includes a data communication module and a controller configured to identify a user of the vehicle, obtain a user profile matching an identification of the user, wherein the user profile includes SIM data associated with an operator plan, assign the SIM data associated with the operator plan of the obtained user profile to the data communication module of the vehicle to virtually replicate the SIM data of the user, and restore operator settings of the data communication module to original settings based on the user no longer being identifiable by the vehicle. In yet another embodiment, a vehicle includes a data communication module and a controller configured to assign SIM data associated with an original equipment manufacturer operator plan to the data communication module, identify a user of the vehicle, obtain a user profile matching an identification of the user, wherein the user profile includes SIM data associated with the operator plan, assign the SIM data associated with the operator plan of the obtained user profile to the data communication module of the vehicle to virtually replicate the SIM data of the user, and restore operator settings of the data communication module based on the user no longer being identifiable by the vehicle. These and additional features provided by the embodiments described herein will be more fully understood in view of the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. Drawings The embodiments set forth in the drawings are illustrative and exemplary in nature and are not intended to limit the subject matter defined by the claims. The following detailed description of illustrative embodiments may be understood when read in conjunction with the following drawings, in which like structure is indicated with like reference numerals and in which: fig. 1 schematically depicts a system for virtually replicating a SIM of a user in accordance with one or more embodiments shown and described herein; Fig. 2 depicts a method for virtually replicating a user's SIM in accordance with one or more embodiments shown and described herein; FIG. 3 depicts a method for virtually replicating a subscriber's SIM in accordance with one or more embodiments shown and described herein, and Fig. 4 depicts a scenario in which a user's SIM is virtually duplicated using the system of fig. 1, in accordance with one or more embodiments shown and described herein. Detailed Description Currently, users (e.g., customers of a carpool or car sharing service) must pair devices (e.g., mobile devices, smartphones, etc.) with vehicles in a multi-step process using bluetooth connections to place and receive phone calls using bluetooth hands free protocol ("HFP"). When connected through a bluetooth HFP, data associated with a call made in a vehicle (e.g., using the hands-free system of the vehicle) must be routed to and from the device through the bluetooth pairing. Such separate pairing is required in each vehicle that the user wants to use to send or receive cellular data. Not all users are willing to pair their phones in vehicles that do not belong to themselves, for example because of concerns about leaving paired phone information (e.g., contact list, call history, sms
