CN-116328086-B - Safety IV catheter with V-clip interlock and needle tip capture
Abstract
A catheter assembly (10) comprising a catheter (22), a needle (12) having a sharp distal tip, a catheter hub (14) receiving the catheter (22) having a collar (34) comprising a notch (36), a needle shield (20) connected to the catheter hub (14) when the needle (12) is in a first position, and a clip (40) provided in the needle shield (20) cooperating with the needle (12), wherein the clip (40) engages the catheter hub (14) when the needle (12) is in the first position, and wherein the clip (40) disengages from the catheter hub (14) via the notch (36) when the needle (12) is retracted to a second position, thereby covering at least a portion of the needle (12). The clip (40) is mounted in an outer housing (38) of the needle shield (20) via a spade (66) having an outer wall (70) exposed outside the needle shield (20) so as to reduce the overall width of the needle shield (20).

Claims (8)
- 1. A catheter assembly, the catheter assembly comprising: A conduit; A needle having a distal tip; a catheter hub connected to the catheter; A needle shield configured to be coupled to the catheter hub, and A clip comprising a leg connected to an outer wall, the outer wall being curved at an angle of more than 45 DEG towards the inside of the clip on both sides of the leg, the clip being disposed in the needle shield and cooperating with the needle, wherein In the first position of the needle, the clip engages the catheter hub, and When the needle is retracted to the second position, the clip disengages the catheter hub so as to cover at least a portion of the needle.
- 2. The catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein the outer wall extends outwardly from the inward bend at an angle greater than 45 ° in a direction away from each side of the clip leg to form an inner wall.
- 3. The catheter assembly of claim 2, wherein the inner wall is substantially parallel to the outer wall.
- 4. The catheter assembly of claim 2, wherein the inner wall is not directly connected to the width of the leg.
- 5. The catheter assembly of claim 2, wherein the inner wall is adjacent to a front plane and a rear plane of the leg.
- 6. The catheter assembly of claim 2, wherein the inner wall comprises barbs.
- 7. The catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein a flattened surface connects the outer wall to the leg.
- 8. The catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein the outer wall is curved at an angle of approximately 90 °.
Description
Safety IV catheter with V-clip interlock and needle tip capture Description of the division The application is a divisional application. The most original application of the divisional application is an invention patent application entering the national stage of China based on PCT treaty. The international application date of the PCT-based Chinese invention patent application is 11/9 in 2015, the international application number is PCT/US2015/059748, the Chinese application number is 201580069878.3, the name of the PCT-based Chinese invention patent application is 'safe IV catheter with V-shaped clip interlocking piece and needle end capturing piece', and the office docket number is IIM171155. The direct parent of the present divisional application is the first divisional application of the above-mentioned most original application. The first generation of divisional application was filed on day 2021, 2, 9, and number 202110175373.2 under the name "safety IV catheter with V-clip interlock and needle tip capture" under the office docket number IIM210325. The national intellectual property agency issues a first review opinion notice (abbreviated as Yitong) for the first generation divisional application at 2022, month 6 and 1, and Yitong indicates that several claims of the first generation divisional application lack of singleness. The applicant has deleted these claims in reply to one pass. The Yitong is the direct basis of the current (second) division. RELATED APPLICATIONS The application claims the benefits of U.S. provisional patent application series No.62/077760, filed 11/10/2015, international patent application No. pct/US2015/026542, filed 4/17/2015, and U.S. provisional patent application series No.62/220629, filed 9/18/2015. The above applications are hereby incorporated by reference. Technical Field Various exemplary embodiments of the present invention relate to catheters. Background Catheter assemblies are used to place catheters in the vasculature of a patient. Once placed in place, catheters (e.g., intravenous catheters) may be used to perfuse fluids (including saline, medical compounds, and/or nutritional ingredients) into a patient in need of such treatment. The catheter is also capable of removing fluid from the circulatory system and monitoring conditions within the patient's vasculature. Disclosure of Invention One aspect of the present invention is to provide a catheter assembly in which an improved clip and needle shield are used to protect the needle. The improved arrangement is more compact, provides enhanced needle protection and reduces the size and complexity of the catheter assembly. The improved clip provides a narrower design, increased strength and flexibility, and various mounting configurations for securing the clip to the needle shield. A release recess is added in the collar of the catheter hub and the clip is disengaged via this recess, so that the needle shield can be made more compact than in the prior art. In the prior art, without the notch, the clip has to travel a longer distance to disengage from the catheter hub. In addition, the width of the needle shield is reduced by an improved attachment interface between the clip and the needle shield. Specifically, a spade attaches the clip to the needle shield, and an outer surface of the spade is exposed to an exterior of the needle shield. The foregoing and/or other aspects of the present invention may be achieved by providing a catheter assembly comprising a catheter, a needle disposed in the catheter, the needle having a sharp distal tip, a catheter hub housing the catheter and the needle, the catheter hub having a notch, a needle shield connected to the catheter hub when the needle is in a first position, and a clip disposed in the needle shield that cooperates with the needle, wherein in the first position of the needle the clip engages a collar, the clip disengages the collar via the notch when the needle is retracted into a second position, thereby surrounding or covering at least a portion of the needle. The foregoing and/or other aspects of the present invention may also be achieved by providing a catheter assembly comprising a catheter, a needle disposed in the catheter having a sharp distal tip, a catheter hub containing the catheter and the needle, a needle shield configured to be connected to the catheter hub, and a clip disposed in the needle shield in cooperation with the needle, the clip comprising a spade that attaches the clip to the needle shield, wherein an outer surface of the spade is exposed to an exterior of the catheter assembly. Drawings The above aspects and features of the present invention will become more apparent by describing exemplary embodiments thereof with reference to the attached drawings in which: FIG. 1 illustrates a left side top perspective view of a catheter assembly according to one embodiment of the present invention; FIG. 2 illustrates a side left perspective view of the cathe
