A decorative molded part (16) arranged in a cabin of a vehicle, the decorative molded part having a decorative sheet (2) on a visible side and a base body (10) connected to the decorative sheet, wherein the base body (10) is separated from the decorative sheet (2) via a plastic layer (8), and wherein the base body (10) is explicitly accommodated within the decorative sheet (2) via a flanged edge section (18) of the decorative sheet (2); Wherein the base body (10) and the plastic layer (8) are connected to each other only by a defined surrounding.

Description

Decorative molded part and method of making the same Technical Field The present invention relates to a decorative molded part and a method of manufacturing the same. In particular, the present invention relates to a decorative molded part for use as an interior trim part in a motor vehicle. Background Such decorative parts are typically manufactured by means of multi-part injection molding. For example, the method known from DE 4301444A1 discloses the insertion of a decorative board as a decorative layer, which is back-molded from plastic, forms a matrix of decorative molded parts on the rear side and is over-molded with a transparent coating on the visible side, which is intended to protect the decorative layer from the environment. Such methods are well known and widespread today. This method offers the advantage that decorative molded parts, which may have been formed in three dimensions previously, can be substantially automated and bonded to a substrate or protective layer by means of injection molding, wherein the decorative molded parts are produced substantially in one processing step as finished products. Typically, only the contours on the outer periphery of the decorative molded part need to be reworked. However, over-molding the plastic to be adhered to the surface of the decorative layer sometimes involves special measures. For example, trim parts are often provided with a laminate structure on the rear side for reinforcement, as well as for bonding plastics. Furthermore, the layers of the decorative molded part are bonded on the material after manufacture, which makes it impossible to reuse the individual components of the decorative molded part. Disclosure of Invention The present invention is based on the problem of providing a decorative molded part and a method of manufacturing the same, which method permits the individual parts of the decorative molded part to be separated by type. The method according to the invention should be easy and economical to implement. To solve the aspects of the invention related to the method, the invention discloses a method having the features of claim 1. In this context, the present invention assumes that the decorative layer is formed of a decorative sheet. The decorative sheet may be a thin plate made of plastic or metal. All that is required is a degree of flexibility, wherein both hot forming and cold forming can be considered to practice the invention. The invention proposes to enclose/embed the substrate explicitly (positively) within the decorative sheet. For this purpose, the edge sections of the decorative sheet protruding beyond the base body on both sides are first bent around the base body, so that the base body is at least partially surrounded by the decorative sheet on opposite sides. These sides are typically the major side surfaces of the substrate, i.e. those surfaces of the substrate having the greatest area extent. In the following description of the invention, the surface sections extending substantially at right angles to the main side surface and connecting the main side surface in any case are referred to as perimeters. The decorative molded part according to the present invention is formed like a conventional decorative molded part and is therefore relatively thin. Decorative molded parts may be used to cover a center console or dashboard in the cabin of a vehicle or a side frame or ceiling or headliner on or in a door. Thus, the decorative molded part is a substantially flat planar product. The decorative molded part may form an outer surface of the steering wheel. The base or carrier of the decorative molded part is typically a plastic part that may provide a securing section for securing the decorative molded part to the vehicle body. These fastening sections may be integrally formed fastening tabs and/or fastening sockets, which are formed from a plastic material providing a carrier and/or from bolts or nuts or other fastening elements, which may be integrally joined with the plastic body of the decorative molded part by overmoulding. The fastening section is made to interlock with a mating surface of a portion of the vehicle body or a mating surface of a component connected to the vehicle body. The base body thus also has a relatively large spatial extension and has a very small thickness. The base body is preferably used for mounting a decorative molded part on a vehicle. The substrate is preferably manufactured by injection molding. During injection molding, the protrusions and other attachment elements are typically injection molded as one piece on a rear side of the base opposite the visible side of the decorative molded part. The connecting element (such as a screw or rivet) may also be attached to the base body by over-molding. In the present invention, a plastic layer is provided between the base body and the decorative sheet. The plastic layer separates the decorative sheet from the substrate. The plastic layer prevents
