Description
Package for storing wet tissue Technical Field The present invention is generally a packaging system for tissue samples, and more particularly a packaging arrangement for storing tissue in a liquid medium. Background Biological tissue can generally provide improved functional performance when used for in vivo implantation, as compared to equivalent synthetic devices. However, availability and use of tissue grafts may be limited by inherent supply limitations and logistical issues of acquisition, transportation and storage. Various techniques have been developed that allow for the acquisition, transport and storage of tissue that may be suitable for surgical implantation. However, many of the developed techniques may require the use of specialized refrigeration equipment to store donor tissue at extremely low temperatures. Such requirements may often limit the facilities that can utilize the available tissue and may complicate the transport of the tissue to the end-use surgical facility. The packages and related methods described herein overcome some of these problems and may enable a more convenient method to transport, store, preoperatively prepare, and end use wet or dry preserved tissue. In some suitable storage methods, the tissue may be stored in a preservative solution that can extend the useful shelf life of the tissue. In some such storage methods, the tissue may remain in the preservative solution until the tissue is used in the surgical procedure.
