Abstract
Embodiments of the present invention provide a die holder for use in a tool. The die holder may include a nose, a release button, and a die pin. The handpiece includes a mold cavity and a pair of sides on opposite sides of the mold cavity. The release button may extend through a release button aperture formed in the handpiece and include opposite ends extending beyond each of the corresponding pair of sides. The mold pin extends through a mold pin cavity intersecting the release button hole. The mold release button may be actuatable from either of the opposite ends to withdraw the mold pin from the mold cavity.

The mold holder of claim 5, further comprising a first bridge member coupled to each of the first and second release buttons adjacent one of the pair of lateral surfaces and a second bridge member coupled to each of the first and second release buttons adjacent the other of the pair of lateral surfaces, Wherein each of the first bridge element and the second bridge element is configured to receive an actuation force to release the mold from the mold cavity of the handpiece.
- 7. The mold holder of claim 1, wherein the release button is double-acting and is actuatable from either of a pair of opposing ends of the release button to withdraw the mold engaging portion from the mold cavity.
- 8. The mold holder of claim 1, wherein the recess comprises a symmetrical profile.
- 9. The mold holder of claim 8, wherein the at least one sloped surface slopes away from the mold cavity and is sized to withdraw the mold engaging portion from the mold cavity as the button engaging portion moves in the axial direction of the release button toward one side of the symmetrical profile.
- 10. The mold holder of claim 1, further comprising a biasing element configured to engage the mold pin proximate the button engagement portion and bias the mold pin toward a retaining orientation.
Description
Double-acting holding mechanism The application is a divisional application of patent application with the application date of 2021, 11/8, the application number of 202180087206.0, the international application number of PCT/US2021/058456 and the application name of 'double-acting holding mechanism'. Cross Reference to Related Applications The present application claims priority from U.S. provisional patent application No. 63/110,492, filed on even 6 months of 11 in 2020, U.S. provisional patent application No. 63/124,985, filed on even 14 months of 12 in 2020, and U.S. provisional patent application No. 63/209,688, filed on even 11 months of 2021, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Background The crimper and cutter typically include a crimping or cutting head and certain crimping and cutting features, depending on the particular configuration of the tool. Some crimpers and cutters are hydraulic power tools that include a piston that can apply a force to a crimp head, which can be used to move a crimp feature to perform a crimping or hold down operation at a target crimp location. Some crimpers and cutters may include a die that may be secured to the crimp head via a die retention mechanism. Disclosure of Invention Embodiments of the present invention provide a die holder for use in a tool. The mold holder includes a head including a mold-engaging surface defining a mold cavity and a pair of sides on opposite sides of the mold cavity. The die holder includes a release button that extends through a release button aperture formed in the handpiece. The release button includes a pair of opposing ends extending beyond each of the corresponding pair of sides and a slot extending through the release button. The slot has a first end defining a recess, and the recess has one or more sloped surfaces. The mold retainer includes a mold pin extending through a mold pin cavity formed in the mold engagement surface and intersecting the release button aperture. The mold pin includes a button engagement portion configured to move along the inclined surface and a mold engagement portion sized to extend beyond the mold engagement surface into the mold cavity to engage the mold.
