Description
Multimodal hair care composition comprising cationic guar gum blend and method of making the same Technical Field The present disclosure relates to a multimodal hair care composition comprising a cationic guar blend and a method of making the same. Background Hair is a type of keratin fiber that is subjected to a variety of repeated stresses, including mechanical stresses caused by daily treatments (e.g., frequent brushing and combing), environmental stresses (e.g., UV exposure), damaging chemical treatments (e.g., bleaching, dyeing), and thermal damage caused by the use of heated styling tools. These exposed damaging effects often manifest themselves as a variety of types of damage to the hair fibers, including structural degradation of the cortex layer, hair scale lift, hair tip bifurcation, and other damaging effects that often lead to further damage and hair breakage. Formulators of hair care and styling have sought products with the multi-functional benefits of being able to effectively treat and style hair. Polymers of synthetic and natural origin are widely used to achieve the desired organoleptic properties of hair care. Hair styling and conditioning products employ both fully synthetic polymers and polymers of natural origin to achieve conditioning and styling benefits. Consumers and formulators are seeking sustainable, environmentally friendly (e.g., biodegradable) and natural source solutions. Many conventional synthetic hair care and hair styling polymers do not meet the sustainability standards set forth by government and non-government agencies. As a result, manufacturers of hair care and hair styling products are under increasing pressure to provide formulations that use sustainable biodegradable ingredients of natural origin while meeting the intended care and styling benefits. As the demand for sustainable ingredients increases, the hair care industry is moving from using synthetic chemicals to plant-based chemicals of natural origin that are biodegradable. Polysaccharides are a class of polymers of natural origin with good sustainable properties, commonly used in rinse-off formulations (especially shampoos) to provide conditioning and deposition of active ingredients. U.S. patent No. 11052,033, assigned to Rhodia Operations, discloses a personal care composition comprising guar derivatives having a weight average molecular weight average of from about 250,000 g/mol to about 600,00 g/mol and guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride having a cationic degree of substitution of from about 0.20 to 0.30. The inventors of the present application have attempted to prepare hair care compositions using cationic guar blends of natural origin and biodegradable. Thus, the present inventors disclose cationic polysaccharides traditionally used in rinse-off formulations that provide excellent styling and conditioning benefits to hair. By combining high weight average molecular weight and cationic polysaccharides of varying degrees of substitution, it is possible to customize formulations with styling and care benefits. The combination of polysaccharides with different chemical properties enables the formulator to "fine tune" the properties and aesthetic properties important to the consumer, such as Mao Faying stiffness, conditioning effect, slip, moisture resistance, shapeability and shape durability. In addition, the cationic polysaccharides also help repair the bifurcated tips of the hair, resist thermal and mechanical damage, and protect the hair from damage resulting from hot straight hairpin styling up to 450°f.
