Claims (15)

  1. 1. A method for assessing one or more environmental property changes of one or more output materials produced from one or more input materials by a chemical production network comprising a plurality of chemical processes, the method comprising: -providing at least one first digital network representation and related environmental properties and at least one second digital network representation and related environmental properties, wherein the at least one first digital network representation and the at least one second digital network representation comprise one or more components associated with one or more input materials of the chemical production network and/or chemical processes producing one or more output materials; -generating a component-based contribution representation from the at least one first digital network representation and the at least one second digital network representation by determining a contribution delta for each component of the at least one first digital network representation and the at least one second digital network representation; Mapping the component-based contribution representation to an output material-based contribution representation, the representation comprising weights indicative of relative contributions of interconnected components to one or more environmental property changes of one or more output materials, -Providing the output material based contribution representation for assessing one or more environmental property changes of one or more output materials.

The method of claim 1, wherein the network representation comprises an end product-based representation that assigns one or more environmental property contributions according to one or more output material relationships of each output material and/or a network-based representation that assigns one or more environmental property contributions according to one or more material input-output relationships of each chemical process, and/or wherein the digital network representation is a digital twin of the chemical production network.
  3. 3. The method of any of the preceding claims, wherein the component comprises a material component and/or a connection component.

The method of any of the preceding claims, wherein one or more material components of the digital network representation relate to input material provided to the chemical production network, output material provided by a chemical process, and/or a mixture of input materials, wherein the one or more material components of the digital network representation are associated with environmental property contributions related to input material, chemical process, and/or input material transport used to produce the output material.
  5. 5. The method of any of the preceding claims, wherein the one or more connection components of the digital network representation are associated with a physical process connection and/or a chemical process input factor of the chemical production network.

The method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein generating the component-based contribution representation comprises determining an absolute difference for each component, and transforming the absolute difference into a relative contribution to the component, in particular the change of the environmental property of the output material of each component.

The method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein generating the component-based contribution representation comprises adjusting the relative contribution to the change in the environmental property of the component, in particular of the output material of each component, by using attribution rules of the inseparable differences.

The method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein mapping the component-based contribution representation to an output material-based contribution representation comprises generating a normalized weight for each component, in particular for the output material of each component, and a distribution relation for distributing the normalized weight to one or more subsequent, e.g. upstream components.

The method of any of the preceding claims, wherein at least a portion of the component-based contribution representation is transformed into a graph data structure associated with material components as vertices and connected components as edges, wherein the graph representation is used at least in part to transform the component-based representation into an output material-based contribution representation.

The method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the component-based contribution representation is transformed from component logic to interconnected component logic, wherein the component logic relates to a contribution to the environmental property change of each component, in particular of the output material of each component, and the interconnected component logic relates to a contribution to the environmental property change with respect to a subsequent, e.g. upstream, component.
  11. 11. The method of any of the preceding claims, wherein providing the output material based contribution representation comprises ordering the weights indicative of the relative contribution of interconnect components to one or more environmental property changes of each output material.
  12. 12. The method of any of the preceding claims, wherein providing the output material based contribution representation comprises providing the component with a weight indicative of a relative contribution to one or more environmental property changes of each output material.

An apparatus for assessing one or more environmental property changes of one or more output materials produced from one or more input materials by a chemical production network comprising a plurality of chemical processes, the apparatus comprising: -a representation providing interface configured to provide at least one first digital network representation and related environmental properties and at least one second digital network representation and related environmental properties, wherein the at least one first digital network representation and the at least one second digital network representation comprise one or more components associated with one or more input materials and/or chemical processes producing one or more output materials of the chemical production network; a contribution generator configured to generate a component-based contribution representation from the at least one first digital network representation and the at least one second digital network representation by determining a differential contribution of each component of the at least one first digital network representation and the at least one second digital network representation, and to map the component-based contribution representation to an output material-based contribution representation, the representation comprising weights indicative of relative contributions of interconnected components to one or more environmental property changes of one or more output materials, -A contribution providing interface configured to provide the output material based contribution representation for assessing one or more environmental property changes of one or more output materials.

An output material produced by the chemical production network, wherein the output material is provided in association with one or more environmental property changes of the output material and associated weights and components contributing to the one or more environmental property changes, as determined by any one of the methods of claims 1 to 12 or by the apparatus of claim 13.

Use of a component-based contribution representation and/or an output material-based contribution representation provided by any of the methods of claims 1 to 12 or by the apparatus of claim 13 for evaluating, quantifying, monitoring and/or controlling the environmental impact of the chemical production network.
