Description

Packing collator for use with luggage Technical Field The present disclosure relates to a packing organizer for use with luggage. Background Inefficient packing of items in the luggage case or cluttered packing of items in the luggage case may result in a reduction in the effective volume of the luggage case, which may result in the need to use additional luggage items. The use of more luggage than is required for travel can result in increased costs for shipping luggage, the consequent risk of losing luggage, and the inconvenience of handling more luggage during travel. Efficient packing of luggage requires experience in folding and placing clothing, shoes, travel accessories in an organized manner in the interior compartment of the luggage, and the ability to consistently repeat strategies during travel with multiple stopovers. In order to simplify the complexity of the packing luggage case and thereby effectively use the interior compartment, there is a need for an improved packing organizer that is simple to use and reconfigurable based on the size and shape of all the boxes to be packed in the interior compartment of the luggage case. Disclosure of Invention A packing organizer for use in a luggage case is disclosed. In one embodiment, the packing organizer includes a first compartment and a separate second compartment, each compartment defining an interior volume, and each compartment defining a selectively openable lid to allow access to the respective interior volume of each compartment. A hinge connects the first compartment with the second compartment to permit relative movement between the first compartment and the second compartment about the hinge. The first and second compartments are movable about the hinge between a first configuration in which the compartments are folded to overlie one another on top of one another and a second configuration in which the first and second compartments are unfolded and positioned side-by-side with one another. The reconfigurable shape of the packing organizer allows it to be packed into luggage in various ways to help effectively pack the luggage. Additionally, each compartment may be defined by an opposing main panel and a plurality of side panels to which the main panels are attached to form the interior volume, and wherein in each respective compartment one of the opposing main panels forms the cover. The cover allows controlled access to the cavity. Additionally or alternatively, in the first configuration, the respective covers engage one another and a side panel coupled to each of the first and second compartments of the hinge extends to form a generally planar surface with respect to one another. In this configuration, the thickness of the packing organizer is greater than its length and fits into the luggage case to occupy more of the depth of the luggage case and less of the length of the luggage case. The packing organizer may extend across a portion or all of the width of the luggage case. Additionally or alternatively, in the second configuration, the cover generally defines a plane relative to each other and side panels coupled to each of the first and second compartments of the hinge engage each other. In this configuration, the length of the packing organizer is greater than its depth/thickness and thus occupies more of the length of the luggage case when occupying only a portion of the depth. The packing organizer may extend across a portion or all of the width of the luggage case. In some examples, the cover includes a mesh material to allow the contents of the package organizer to be seen through the cover and/or to allow the contents to be ventilated. Additionally or alternatively, the hinge is a flexible element and one edge of the hinge is coupled adjacent to a top edge of a side panel on the first compartment and an opposite edge of the hinge is coupled to a top edge of a side panel on the second compartment. A respective cover of each of the first and second compartments is coupled to the respective compartment along at least a portion of the length of the hinge. The hinge is positioned to allow the packaging container to fold in a manner that allows the cover to engage when in the first configuration and to form a substantially planar surface when in the extended second configuration. Additionally or alternatively, the cover of each respective compartment is selectively coupled along the top edges of three adjacent side panels by a zipper, hook and loop fastener, snap fastener, or releasable clasp for controlling access to the interior volume. Additionally or alternatively, the first configuration defines a thickness dimension, a length dimension, and a width dimension, and the second configuration defines a thickness dimension, a length dimension, and a width dimension. The thickness dimension is greater than the thickness dimension in the second configuration and the length dimension is less than the length dimension in the second co
