- 4. A marking device for a log as claimed in claim 3 wherein the gripping unit further comprises a detector mounted to the mounting bracket, the rotatable portion of the detector being drivably connected to the rotatable gripping portion.

The marking device of a log according to claim 4 wherein the gripping unit further comprises a drive shaft and a coupling mounted to one end of the drive shaft, an end of the drive shaft facing away from the coupling being mounted to the rotational grip, an end of the coupling facing away from the drive shaft being mounted to the rotatable portion of the probe such that the rotatable portion of the probe is drivably connected to the rotational grip by the coupling and the drive shaft.

The marking device of any one of claims 2 to 5, further comprising a detection unit comprising a detection frame and a detection portion mounted to a top of the detection frame, a bottom of the detection frame being mounted to the mounting frame or the base, the detection portion being positioned adjacent to a position of the axial clamp portion.

The marking method of the log is characterized by comprising the following steps of: s1, clamping a shell of a log on a clamping unit; S2, marking is carried out on the surface of the shell by a laser marking unit suspended above the clamping unit by a bracket, wherein the clamping unit and the bracket are respectively arranged on a base.
