Abstract

Information collection and sharing from collision events is provided. A system and method for collecting evidence of a collision event of a vehicle on a roadway using an observer device is provided. The image sensor captures image data during a collision event. The communication module receives a collision message broadcast from a vehicle involved in a collision event. The evidence collection module processes image data acquired from the image sensor to determine whether a collision event is captured. The evidence collection module also compares time and geographic data from collision messages collected by the involved vehicles during the collision event with time and location metadata in the image data to tag an image of the collision event. When the time and location metadata matches the time and geographic data and the image data captures a collision event, a evidence report is generated that includes a marker image of the collision event.

Description

Information collection and sharing from crash events Technical Field The technical field relates generally to third party devices that collect evidence of collision events, and more particularly to third party devices that detect collisions between nearby vehicles. Background In recent years, advances in vehicle safety technology have been increasingly focused on improving the ability of vehicles to prevent and mitigate collisions. One important area of development is the vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication system, which allows vehicles to exchange critical information in real-time with other road users and roadside infrastructure equipment. These systems are designed to enhance situational awareness, enabling vehicles to react to potential hazards before they become an impending threat. The primary use case of V2X communication is the transmission of vehicle data between vehicles. In the event of a light collision event, a third party human observer witnessed of the affected vehicle may not feel that the light collision is severe enough to park and does not need to park alongside and share collision event information with other drivers of nearby vehicles. Despite advances in traffic management, challenges remain in reducing traffic associated with light vehicle collisions. The present disclosure provides a method of helping to exchange collected evidence, solving the above-mentioned problems, and the like, by making it faster, safer, and more reliable for all occupants of a vehicle. The desired features and characteristics of the embodiments herein will become apparent from the subsequent detailed description and the appended claims, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and this introduction.
