An apparatus implementing a reader of an environmental internet of things (IoT) device, the apparatus comprising: at least one memory configured to store instructions, and At least one processing circuitry configured to access the at least one memory and execute the instructions to cause the apparatus at least to: Receiving a request for an ambient IoT service, the request comprising information indicating one or more ambient IoT device capabilities or types; Making a determination of whether the reader is compatible with the one or more ambient IoT device capabilities or types and based on the determination, Performing an operation to advance the request for activation of one or more ambient IoT devices having the one or more ambient IoT device capabilities or types to fulfill the request.

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the one or more environmental IoT device capabilities or types comprise at least one of one or more environmental IoT device radio capabilities, one or more environmental IoT device hardware capabilities, or one or more environmental IoT device security capabilities.

The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the one or more ambient IoT device capabilities or types comprise the one or more ambient IoT device radio capabilities, and the one or more ambient IoT device radio capabilities comprise at least one of an operating frequency, a frequency offset range, or a supported random access channel RACH access type.

The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the one or more environmental IoT device capabilities or types comprise the one or more environmental IoT device hardware capabilities, and the one or more environmental IoT device hardware capabilities comprise at least one of at least one memory, presence of an amplifier, or presence of a frequency shifting circuit.

Reader selection in a radio access network based on environmental internet of things capabilities Technical Field The present disclosure relates generally to telecommunications, and in particular, to devices supporting services such as the internet of things (IoT) in a telecommunications system. Background A telecommunications system may be seen as a facility that enables a communication session between two or more entities (e.g., user terminals, base stations, and/or other nodes) by providing carriers between the various entities involved in the communication path. For example, a telecommunications system may be provided by a communications network and one or more compatible communications devices. The communication session may include, for example, communication data for carrying communications such as voice, video, electronic mail (email), text messages, multimedia, and/or content data. Non-limiting examples of services provided include bi-or multi-directional calls, data communication or multimedia services, and access to data network systems such as the internet. In a wireless telecommunication system, at least a portion of a communication session between at least two stations occurs over a wireless link. Examples of wireless telecommunication systems include Public Land Mobile Networks (PLMNs), satellite-based communication systems, and different wireless local networks, such as Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). Some wireless systems may be divided into cells and are therefore commonly referred to as cellular systems.
