Description
Enabling mobility candidate cell measurements Technical Field Example embodiments may relate to apparatuses (including user equipment, UEs and nodes), methods and computer programs related to enabling mobility candidate cell measurements in a mobile communication system, e.g., using dynamically activated reference signals. Background Channel State Information (CSI) or beam-related reference signals may be used to assist in making decisions regarding cell handover in a mobile communication system. There remains a need for further developments in the art. Disclosure of Invention The scope of protection sought for the various embodiments of the invention is set forth in the independent claims. The embodiments and features (if any) described in this specification that do not fall within the scope of the independent claims are to be construed as examples useful for understanding the various embodiments of the invention. In a first aspect, the present specification describes a user equipment, UE, of a mobile communication system, the UE comprising means (e.g., an input) for receiving a trigger from a serving cell of the UE for measuring CSI-RS from one or more candidate cells as part of an LTM procedure, wherein the trigger comprises one or more candidate cell IDs identifying the one or more candidate cells, means (e.g., a processor) for measuring CSI-RS from the one or more candidate cells, and means (e.g., an output) for providing the measured CSI-RS to the serving cell for processing as part of the LTM procedure. The measured CSI-RS may be used, for example, to cause the serving cell to decide whether to switch to one of the one or more candidate target cells. Alternatively, CSI-RS may be used for CSI acquisition. The CSI-RS may be a semi-persistent reference signal (e.g., sent from an activation time to a deactivation time). The CSI-RS may be an aperiodic reference signal (e.g., a "single shot" signal). In some example embodiments, the trigger received from the serving cell of the UE to measure CSI-RS from the one or more candidate cells includes CSI-RS identifiers for the one or more candidate cells. The trigger received from the serving cell of the UE for measuring CSI-RS from one or more candidate cells may include a CSI-RS activation time for the respective candidate cell. The trigger may, for example, include an activation duration indication associated with the activation time or the number of activation periods of the CSI-RS. The trigger received from the serving cell of the UE for measuring CSI-RS from the one or more candidate cells may include a CSI-RS deactivation time or a CSI-RS deactivation condition for the respective candidate cell. For example, if the condition is met, the UE may also terminate the measurement even if the network does not provide a deactivation condition (e.g., provided in some other way). The UE may determine that the activated SP CSI-RS for LTM measurement is deactivated (from the UE perspective), for example, in one or more of receiving a cell switch command to the new target/candidate cell and/or upon successful switching to the new target/candidate cell. Alternatively or additionally, the network may trigger a deactivation command for the SP CSI-RS (for one or more target/candidate cells) upon determining that the UE is to be exchanged or to be exchanged to a target/candidate cell. In some example embodiments, the UE behavior is configurable, e.g. as to whether or not to consider an activated SP CSI-RS as (still) activated or deactivated after a cell-switching operation. The UE may also include means for receiving a message from the serving cell regarding whether to switch to one or more of the candidate cells according to the instruction. In a second aspect, the present specification describes a node (e.g., a serving node or source node) of a mobile communication system, the node comprising means (e.g., a processor) for identifying one or more candidate cells for handover, means (e.g., a processor) for determining CSI-RSs to be activated and deactivated at the identified candidate cells, means (e.g., an output) for providing instructions (e.g., via a UE context setup request) to each of the candidate cells, the instructions comprising information regarding CSI-RS activation and deactivation and cell identifiers for the respective candidate cells, means (e.g., an output) for sending a trigger to a UE of the mobile communication system to measure (or obtain) CSI-RSs as part of an LTM procedure, wherein the trigger comprises the one or more candidate cell identifiers identifying the one or more candidate cells, and means (e.g., an input) for receiving measured CSI-RSs from the UE. The measured CSI-RS may be used, for example, to cause the serving cell to decide whether to switch to one of the one or more candidate target cells. Alternatively, CSI-RS may be used for CSI acquisition. The CSI-RS may be a semi-persistent reference signal (e.g., sent from an activation time to
