Description
Ascaroside and phytonutrient combination and methods of use Cross Reference to Related Applications The present application claims priority from U.S. provisional application No. 63/515,554 filed on 7.25.2023, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. Technical Field The present invention relates to compositions and methods relating to the use of ascarosides and one or more phytonutrients. Background Plant nutrients are very important for the growth and development of plants and for the production and quality of flowers and fruits. Plant nutrients are also required for plants to produce chlorophyll and to perform photosynthesis. Many essential and beneficial plant nutrients have been identified, each having an important role in promoting the growth and development of plants, flowers and fruits. One or more (and often more than one) plant nutrients are typically applied to any given crop-producing plant ("crop") during the growth of the plant. In order to effectively address plant nutrient deficiencies and prevent pathogen damage in plant life, it is often necessary to apply these components separately. This is detrimental because it requires additional passes over the crop, which increases costs, resource usage (e.g., fuel, water, labor, etc.), and potential damage to the crop and/or soil. Disclosure of Invention Combinations of agents for promoting plant growth and methods of use thereof are provided. The combination comprises at least one ascaroside (or derivative or analogue of ascaroside) and at least one plant nutrient. Ascarosides may be combined with at least one plant nutrient to provide the plant with its components necessary for growth while also providing durable protection against pathogens (e.g., fungi, mold, bacteria, viruses, and/or nematodes) during plant life. The one or more ascarosides and the one or more nutrients may be provided in the same composition, or may be applied together (i.e., substantially simultaneously) or sequentially. The agent is applied in an effective amount (i.e., an amount sufficient to provide one or more nutrients to the plant to promote growth and development and also provide durable protection against the pathogen). The present invention includes, but is not limited to, the following examples.
