CN-122009027-A - Display with integrated user monitoring system
Abstract
A display system with an embedded user monitoring system is disclosed herein. The display system is suitable for use in a vehicle. The display includes a backlight illumination sheet with one or more apertures. The display system also includes one or more optical sensors and/or one or more infrared LEDs. An infrared LED is located within the one or more apertures. Advantageously, the display system is more aesthetically attractive than systems known in the art and improves the operational performance of the user monitoring system functions.

Description
Display with integrated user monitoring system Technical Field The present invention relates to the field of display systems. In particular, the present invention relates to a display system with an integrated user monitoring system. The display system is suitable for use in, but not necessarily only for use in, the interior and/or exterior of a vehicle, for example as a display system integrated in the dashboard of the vehicle, or as a display system integrated outside the B-pillar of the vehicle. Background User monitoring systems (e.g., internal monitoring systems) known in the art are safety systems for vehicles that monitor drivers and occupants, particularly driver characteristics such as distraction, drowsiness, alertness, and or fatigue. It may also be used to identify the identity of the user. Such systems known in the art include at least an infrared LED and an optical sensor, both located within a housing. The internal monitoring system is located within the interior of the vehicle, for example on an instrument panel, steering column or interior rear view mirror. The infrared LED emits infrared radiation (typically having a wavelength of 940 nm) to the driver and or occupant, which is reflected off, for example, the face of the driver and or occupant, and the reflected infrared radiation is collected by an optical sensor, thereby producing an image of the driver and or occupant. If the internal monitoring system detects that, for example, the driver is not paying attention to the road, the internal monitoring system provides an output, such as illuminating a warning light or even actively braking the vehicle. User monitoring systems known in the art are located within dedicated housings, which disadvantageously clutter the vehicle interior and negatively impact the aesthetics of the vehicle. Furthermore, since the components of the user monitoring systems known in the art are confined within a dedicated housing, they are relatively close together, which is not desirable for optimal thermal performance of such systems. These systems also disadvantageously include a relatively poor signal-to-noise ratio and therefore accuracy is limited. Furthermore, such systems may be susceptible to interference due to the large amount of background infrared radiation emitted by the infrared LED light source. A device is generally required to solve the above problems. Disclosure of Invention It is an object of an aspect of the present invention to provide a device that obviates or mitigates one or more of the disadvantages or drawbacks of the prior art. Further objects and goals of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following description. According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a display system suitable for use in a vehicle, the display system comprising: a backlight tile comprising one or more apertures; One or more optical sensors, and One or more of the infrared LEDs of the light source, Wherein the one or more infrared LEDs are located within the one or more apertures. Most preferably, one or more optical sensors are also located within the one or more apertures. The one or more optical sensors may include one or more infrared sensors and/or one or more visible light sensors. Alternatively, the one or more infrared LEDs and the one or more optical sensors may be located within the same one or more apertures. Locating one or more infrared LEDs and/or one or more optical sensors in one or more holes in a backlight sheet is advantageous because it results in a relatively thin display system. Furthermore, thinner display systems are easier to integrate into the support, for example into the interior or exterior of the vehicle. Furthermore, the user monitoring system may be more easily integrated into the display system presented in the present invention while remaining unnoticed by the user. Most preferably, the display system comprises two or more infrared LEDs. Preferably, two or more LEDs are located within one or more apertures. Most preferably, two or more LEDs are located within two or more holes. It is advantageous for the display system to comprise two or more infrared LEDs, in particular a distributed array of two or more infrared LEDs, as this results in a wider illumination field and a wider field of view. This increases the signal-to-noise ratio and thus the quality of the resulting detected image. Infrared LEDs can operate at lower power, thereby extending lifetime and reducing power consumption. Preferably, the one or more apertures comprise one or more sensor apertures and/or one or more LED apertures. Preferably, the one or more optical sensors are located within the one or more sensor apertures. Preferably, one or more infrared LEDs are located within one or more LED holes. Preferably, each of the one or more LED holes comprises one of the one or more infrared LEDs. Preferably, the display system further comprises a decorative layer. The backli
