CN-122011328-A - Reactive flame retardants for flexible polyurethane foams
Abstract
The present invention provides dialkyl phosphorus-containing compounds, i.e., reactive monohydroxy functional dialkyl phosphinates, that act as very efficient reactive flame retardants in flexible polyurethane foams. The invention further provides flame retardant polyurethane compositions comprising the reaction product of the monohydroxy functional dialkylphosphinate with a polyol and an isocyanate foam forming component.

Description
Reactive flame retardants for flexible polyurethane foams The application is a divisional application of China patent application (the application name is reactive flame retardant for flexible polyurethane foam, the application date is 7 months and 23 days in 2018, and the application number is 201880049392.7). Cross Reference to Related Applications The present application claims the benefit of U.S. provisional patent application serial No. 62/536,260 filed on 7/24, 2017, which is incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field The present disclosure herein provides for the use of reactive dialkyl phosphorus-containing compounds, i.e., hydroxy-functional dialkyl phosphinates, that act as efficient reactive flame retardants in flexible polyurethane foams (foam) when reacted with polyols and isocyanates. The present invention further provides a flame resistant flexible polyurethane foam wherein the hydroxy-functional dialkylphosphinate is reacted and incorporated into the polymer matrix of the flexible polyurethane foam. The terms "fire retardant" and "flame retardant" are used interchangeably herein. Background Brominated or phosphorus-based flame retardants are known to be highly effective and in many cases are the only option for reducing the risk of fire (fire) in synthetic materials such as flexible polyurethane foams. However, the increased public and government supervision of chemicals (and particularly flame retardants) has been increasing in recent years. The aim is to move towards new products that are more sustainable, reactive, polymeric and/or halogen-free. If the flame retardant reacts into the polymer matrix and cannot be leached, the supervision will be greatly reduced. Thus, there is a need for reactive phosphorus-containing flame retardants for flexible polyurethanes which possess characteristics such as high phosphorus content, transparent light color and good compatibility with polyether polyols and polyester polyols used in the polyurethane industry. Disclosure of Invention The present invention provides reactive dialkyl phosphorus-containing monohydroxy functional compounds that possess very satisfactory flame retardant properties and have good compatibility with the polyol component of flexible polyurethane foam forming systems. The expression "flexible polyurethane foam forming system" as used herein will be understood to include polyols, isocyanates and reactive dialkyl phosphorus-containing monohydroxy functional compounds as described herein. The monohydroxy functional dialkylphosphinate compounds are sufficiently reactive with their individual hydroxy functional groups and are easier to formulate (formulate) than di-or tri-hydroxy functional dialkylphosphinate compounds. Surprisingly, it has been found that, despite the low content of hydroxyl functional groups of the reactive monohydroxy functional dialkylphosphinate compounds herein, they can be reacted and incorporated into the polymer structure of flexible polyurethane foam, for example by reaction with the isocyanate component of the flexible polyurethane foam forming system, without destroying the elastic properties of the flexible polyurethane foam. This means that the flame retardants of the invention become integrated (integrated) into the flexible foam matrix so that they are not released into the environment and are less likely to penetrate through the cell membranes of living tissue and thus do not pose a health hazard. The present invention further provides the flexible polyurethane foam-forming system described above, including but not limited to the reactive dialkyl phosphorus-containing monohydroxy functional compounds described herein. The term "foam" as used herein refers to flexible polyurethane foam. The flexible polyurethane foam described herein as or claimed herein as comprising the reacted monohydroxy functional dialkylphosphinate compounds of the general formulae (I-a) and/or (I-B) (general formula (I-B) representing a group of phosphorus-containing diols and/or polyol reaction products comprising at least one phosphorus-containing group that are partially phosphorylated (phosphorylated, phosphorylation)), consisting essentially of, or consisting of, is herein understood to comprise the aforementioned formula as reactive material, i.e. the aforementioned formula is reacted into the structure of the flexible polyurethane material, in which case the aforementioned formula may or may not be present in the same structural formula as described herein, but will be present in the flexible polyurethane material as a reaction product of a diol and/or polyol, an isocyanate, and a structural formula described herein. The term "polyol" as used herein will be understood to be also possibly defined as a diol and/or polyol. The present invention provides a group of monohydroxy functional dialkylphosphinate compounds of the general formulae (I-A) and (I-B), and partially phosphorylated phosphorus-containing diols and/or
