Description
Method for preparing edible, malleable and palatable substrates for animals and use of such substrates Technical Field The present invention relates to a method of preparing an edible, malleable and palatable (palatable) base. The matrix is used to prepare a palatable carrier for administering an active agent to an animal. Background Oral administration of active substances, particularly pharmaceuticals, to animals is often difficult due to the unpleasant taste of some of these substances and the highly developed smell and taste of the animals. If absorption is denied, the chance of success of veterinary treatment may drop dramatically. Thus, there is a need for a package of active substances that can hinder the alertness of animals, particularly dogs, cats, horses, pigs, and ruminants. Today, many palatable carriers are known that allow the administration of active substances to animals. In particular, from EP 0 320 320a tablet is known which comprises a core containing an active substance and a palatable base completely covering the core. However, it is not feasible to individually and temporarily coat a drug that is delivered without a palatable base. From EP 0 574 301 a lozenge made of a matrix of a palatable material is known comprising a cavity having a shape substantially complementary to the shape of the tablet to be administered to the dog. However, such lozenges are inextensible and therefore the tablet must be pressed into the cavity. Therefore, it is not suitable for all tablet shapes and it is not possible to insert several tablets of the same size at the same time nor to insert active substances in the form of liquid or powder capsules therein. A palatable carrier for animal active substances, in particular for pharmaceutical products, is known from EP 1 562 549. The matrix of the carrier comprises at least one tacky surface having sufficient tackiness to bind the active substance by simple contact of the active substance with the tacky surface. There are many such vectors on the market today, such as the PILL ASSIST product sold under the brand Royal Canin (by MARS company in europe, especially GB, FR, DE) or the hill Pocket TM product sold under the brand Greenies TM (manufactured by Greenies company in the united states, manufactured by MARS PETCARE USA). This type of carrier is more advantageous because it allows the active substance, in particular the drug, to be immobilized by simply bringing it into contact with the adhesive surface of the matrix. No complex coating process is required. In addition, the adhesive fixation allows the carrier according to the invention to be used for active substances, for example prepared in the form of pills, tablets, capsules or powders, having any shape, for example substantially cylindrical, spherical or disk-shaped. However, not all of these products are equally easy to use. Because of their method of preparation, they have different textures and some are less extensible, less tacky or easily broken. Thus, coating certain types of active substances can be particularly difficult. These treatment difficulties directly affect the absorption of the active substance by the animal and ultimately the chance of success of the veterinary treatment. Thus, there is a need to develop new palatable carriers that are easier for the user to handle. Surprisingly, the inventors were able to demonstrate that by selecting animal meal powders (ANIMAL MEALS, animal meals, animal powders) with a protein content of higher than 60%, edible, malleable and palatable matrices with improved texture characteristics can be prepared, which not only facilitates coating of the active substances, but also their administration to animals. Disclosure of Invention The present invention relates to a method of preparing an edible, malleable and palatable base for animals.
