Abstract

The invention relates to a method for extending at least one display (1) of at least one display unit (2, 2.1, 2.2) of an infotainment system (4) in a vehicle (6), characterized by the following steps: - Providing a screen extension application (4.1) within the infotainment system (4) in the vehicle (6), - Inserting an icon of the screen extension application (4.1) into a user interface of the infotainment system (4), - Activating (100) the screen extension application (4.1) and pairing a mobile device (8) with at least one of the display units (2, 2.1, 2.2), - Determining and/or updating a current vehicle status (6.0 to 6.0.2) of the vehicle (6), - Depending on the determined current vehicle condition (6.0 to 6.0.2) - Activating an extension mode (104) of a first display unit (2.1) or a second display unit (2.2) to perform an extension display of a screen (8.1) of the mobile device (8) on the first display unit (2.1) or the second display unit (2.2) when the vehicle (6) is parked, or - Activating a direct display mode (106) of the second display unit (2.2) to perform a direct display of the screen (8.1) of the mobile device (8) on the second display unit (2.2) when the vehicle (6) is moving.

Claims (6)

  1. Method for extending at least one display (1) of at least one display unit (2, 2.1, 2.2) of an infotainment system (4) in a vehicle (6), characterized by the following steps: - providing a screen extension application (4.1) within the infotainment system (4) in the vehicle (6), - inserting an icon of the screen extension application (4.1) into a user interface of the infotainment system (4), - activating (100) the screen extension application (4.1) and pairing a mobile device (8) with at least one of the display units (2, 2.1, 2.2), - determining and/or updating a current vehicle state (6.0 to 6.0.2) of the vehicle (6), - depending on the determined current vehicle state (6.0 to 6.0.2), - activating an extension mode (104) of a first display unit (2.1) or a second display unit (2.2) to extend a screen display (8.1) of the mobile device (8) on the first display unit (2.1) or the second display unit (2.2) when the vehicle (6) is parked, or - Activating a direct display mode (106) of the second display unit (2.2) to perform a direct display of the screen (8.1) of the mobile device (8) on the second display unit (2.2) when the vehicle (6) is moving.

Procedure according to Claim 1 , characterized in that when the direct display mode (106) is activated or is active, communication (112) between the second display unit (2.2) and third components is interrupted, the second display unit (2.2) is configured as an external standard monitor and the screen (8.1) of the mobile device (8) is output on the second display unit (2.2), a touch function of the second display unit (2.2) is deactivated and an audio output of the second display unit (2.2) is deactivated.

Procedure according to Claim 1 or 2 , characterized in that when the extension mode (104) of the first display unit (2.1) is activated or is, the screen (8.1) of the mobile device (8) is output on the first display unit (2.1) or the second display unit (2.2), a touch function of the first display unit (2.1) or the second display unit (2.2) is deactivated and an audio output of the first display unit (2.1) or the second display unit (2.2) is deactivated.
  4. Method according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that , prior to activating the direct display mode (106) or the extension mode (104), a disclaimer and/or a warranty limitation is issued to a user, wherein the user must confirm the disclaimer and/or the warranty limitation in order to trigger the activation of the direct display mode (106) or the extension mode (104).
  5. Method according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that a main display unit (2.1) for a driver of the vehicle (6) is used as the first display unit (2.1).
  6. Method according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that an auxiliary display unit (2.2) for a passenger and/or a co-passenger of the vehicle (6) is used as the second display unit (2.2).

Description

The invention relates to a method for extending at least one display of at least one display unit of an infotainment system in a vehicle. From the US 2006/0252466 A1 A device and system are known that enable increased flexibility in the use of portable computers in conjunction with motor vehicles. Through a coupling device in a motor vehicle that allows a portable computer to access a variety of internal functions and perform additional functions, the system enables passengers to make better and more comprehensive use of otherwise unused time during the journey. Thus, the overall utility of motor vehicles and portable computers can be increased compared to other commercially available systems. The object of the invention is to provide an improved method for extending at least one display of at least one display unit in a vehicle. The problem is solved according to the invention by a method for extending at least one display of at least one display unit with the features of claim 1. Beneficial further training is subject to dependent claims. The inventive method for extending at least one display of at least one display unit of an infotainment system in a vehicle is characterized by the following steps: - Providing a screen extension application within the vehicle's infotainment system, - Inserting an icon of the screen extension application into a user interface of the infotainment system, - Activating the screen extension application and pairing a mobile device with at least one of the display units, - Determining and/or updating the current vehicle status, - Depending on the determined current vehicle condition - Enabling an extension mode of a first display unit to directly display a screen from the mobile device when the vehicle is parked, or - Activating a direct display mode of the mobile device's screen on a second display unit when the vehicle is in motion. Alternatively, in both modes, the extension mode and the direct display mode, only the second display unit, in particular an auxiliary display unit, can be used as a screen extension. The advantages achieved with the invention consist in particular of the fact that passengers in a vehicle can have access to the functions and screens of their mobile devices, such as laptops, tablets, mobile phones, or the like, on a vehicle-integrated display unit, especially a main display unit for the driver and/or an auxiliary display unit for the front passenger or other passengers. This improves passenger comfort and productivity during a vehicle journey, as passengers can use their preferred mobile devices and the applications implemented on them on the vehicle's screen. The procedure provides for at least two operating modes, for example a direct display mode and an extension mode (also called virtual machine extension mode) for such an extension of the relevant display unit in the vehicle to display the screen of the mobile device on this vehicle-specific display unit. Exemplary embodiments of the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to a drawing.
