Description
FIELD The claimed invention is directed to a multilayer film that is oriented in at least one direction and where the core layer and first skin layer are both required to comprise polyethylene. To assist understanding of the claimed invention, the disclosure also includes reference to multilayer films that may have oriented layer(s), such as the core, tie, and/or skin layers, and include polyethylene in one or more layers of the film. BACKGROUND US2003/152791 discloses a multilayer polymer film structure that includes a core layer and at least one skin layer. The core layer has a first and second side and contains a film-forming polyolefin. The at least one skin layer contains a film-forming ethylene acid terpolymer resin composition comprising (i) polyethylene, (ii) acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, or mixtures thereof, and (iii) alkyl acrylate, alkyl methacrylate, or mixtures thereof. US2004/053066 discloses an oriented multilayer film containing a core layer and a first skin layer, wherein the first skin layer includes a metallocene-catalyzed propylene homopolymer or copolymer, and the first skin layer is metallized. The film may also contain additional layers, such as a second skin layer for heat-sealing, and one or more tie layers. US2003/211350 discloses a thermoplastic multilayer that comprises: a) a core layer comprising a polyolefin selected from the group consisting of isotactic PP homopolymer, EP copolymer, HDPE, and LLDPE; b) a first transition layer external to the core layer wherein the first transition layer comprises a polyolefin selected from the group consisting of syndiotactic PP, EP copolymer, PB copolymer, EPB terpolymer, MDPE, LLDPE, LDPE, metallocene-catalyzed PE, EVA copolymer, EMA copolymer, and ionomer; and c) a first skin layer external to the first transition layer and the core layer wherein the first skin layer comprises a polyolefin selected from the group consisting of PP homopolymer, HDPE, EP copolymer, PB copolymer, EPB terpolymer, MDPE, and LLDPE, the first skin layer being at least 0.5 micron in thickness with a melting point at least 5°C greater than the first transition layer. US2002/182390 discloses multilayer films containing 3, 4, 5, 6 or more layers. Anti-block is included in a tie layer, contiguous to a skin layer and a core layer. The film may contain one or two skin layers. If there are two tie layers, the anti-block may be found in one or both. Metallized films made from the multilayer films are also disclosed. US2011/212338 discloses multilayer heat shrink film including a core layer having an alpha-olefin polymer and at least one skin layer having a cyclic olefin copolymer (COC), process for its preparation and uses thereof. US2003/008153 discloses a thermoplastic film comprising a core layer comprising a polyolefin wherein the core layer comprises the interior of the film; a first transition layer comprising a polyolefin and a silicone additive, wherein the first transition layer is exterior to the core layer; and a first skin layer comprising a polyolefin wherein the first skin layer is exterior to the first transition layer and the core layer. US2002/182435 discloses a metallized multilayer film structure that includes a core layer of a film-forming polyolefin having a first side and a second side. A metal receiving skin layer may be disposed on the first side of the core layer. A metal layer may be deposited on the surface of the metal receiving skin layer opposite the core layer. A topcoat layer may be disposed on the surface of the metal layer opposite the metal receiving skin layer. A polymer skin layer may be disposed on the second side of the core layer. The film structure may optionally include one or more tie layers. The film structure may also optionally include a primer layer interposed between the topcoat layer and the metal layer. WO2017/210403 discloses oriented, multilayer shrink films, which are either clear or opaque, and comprise a core layer and at least one skin layer. The core layer has a thickness greater than the thickness of the at least one skin layer. The at least one skin layer comprises at least one cyclic-olefin copolymer as the predominant component thereof. The core layer comprises a blend of a polyolefin polymer and a polybutene-1 copolymer with ethylene, the butene-1 constituting over 75% by weight of the polybutene-1 copolymer. In general, this disclosure provides for new multilayer films and methods that provide matte films, all or some of which may be recyclable, particularly for embodiments containing all polyethylene. Additionally and alternatively, the disclosed multilayer films and methods may have improved stiffness. Alongside the foregoing functional and environmental improvements, these new multilayer films may be use in laminating, packaging and/or labelling applications. SUMMARY The claimed invention is directed to a multilayer film comprising: a core layer comprising at least 50 wt.% of high-density polyethylene; a
