PRINTHEAD OPENING SYSTEM AND METHOD

Abstract

The present disclosure is directed to a printhead assembly (200) for use in a printer (100). The printhead assembly (200) includes a printhead (138) connected to a printer holder (282). The printhead (138) is movable between a lowered position and a lifted position. The printhead assembly (200) also includes a lever subassembly (206). The lever subassembly (206) includes a lever shaft (630), a locking mechanism (632, 636) configured to maintain the printhead assembly (200) in a closed position when the locking mechanism (632, 636) is engaged, and a lever cam (756a, 756b) connected to the lever shaft (630) and positioned adjacent to a portion of the printhead holder (282). The lever cam (756a, 756b) moves the printhead (138) from the lowered position to the lifted position by engaging the printhead holder (282). The printhead (138) is moved to the lifted position prior to disengaging the locking mechanism (632, 636) when moving the printhead assembly (200) from the closed position to an open position.
