EP-4706740-A3 - NEEDLELESS CONNECTOR HAVING CHECK VALVE WITH LIP SEAL
Abstract
The invention relates to a valve member for a needleless connector and to a corresponding needleless connector. The valve member comprises a head portion and a body portion. The head portion includes a top section and an outer side surface having a notch and a circumferential lip seal. The top section defines a first seal portion extending radially outward from the outer side surface. The body portion extends longitudinally from the head portion to a distal end and forms a second seal portion at a proximal end thereof, wherein the circumferential lip seal is disposed between the first and second seal portions. The needleless connector comprises a housing having an inlet port, an outlet port, and an inner surface defining an internal cavity therebetween, within which the valve member is movably retained. In a closed state, the first seal portion and an entire perimeter of the circumferential lip seal engage the inner surface of the housing. In an open state, a gap is formed between the first seal portion and the inner surface, while at least a portion of the circumferential lip seal remains engaged with the inner surface to obstruct fluid flow toward the first seal portion, the circumferential lip seal deflecting as the valve member moves from the closed state toward the open state.
