Abstract

An electrical fuse assembly (100) comprises: an outer housing (110) having axially opposed end openings (114A, 114B) communicating with a cavity (112); first and second terminal electrodes (132, 134) positioned at the opposed end openings (114A, 114B) of the outer housing (110) defining a hermetically sealed chamber (108); an inner housing (111) disposed in the sealed chamber (108), the inner housing comprising: a base (120) and a cover (128) defining an arc chamber; narrowed end slots at each end of the inner housing (111); each of the narrowed end slots in communication with the arc chamber; a plurality of inner electrodes (E1-E24) defining at least one spark gap; a pair of opposed end chambers defined between ends of the inner housing (111) and the terminal electrodes (132, 134), the pair of opposed end chambers in fluid communication with the narrowed end slots of the inner housing (111) and, a fuse element (160) electrically connecting the first and second terminal electrodes (132, 134), the fuse element (160) extending through the narrowed end slots and disposed across the at least one spark gap.
