Description
BAIT COMPOSITIONS CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/523,509 filed June 27, 2023. FIELD OF DISCLOSURE [0001] This disclosure relates to the field of insect attractants, and in particular, to bait compositions and methods of using bait compositions for controlling pests. BACKGROUND [0002] Pests, and particularly agronomic pests, are capable of causing extensive crop damage and economic losses. Examples of such agronomic pests include fruit flies in the family Tephritidae, with the genera Anastrepha, Bactrocera, and Ceratitis posing the greatest risk to U.S. agriculture. The extensive damage and wide host range of pests such as tephritid fruit flies become obstacles to agricultural diversification and trade when pests become established. [0003] Insecticides have been used as a primary method for pest control for the last 100 years and are still widely employed today. Yet despite large numbers of available agrochemical products, heavy pest populations are still present on crop fields. For example, Tephritid fruit flies spend their larval stages feeding and growing in over 400 host plants. Many pest control failures can be attributed to insecticide resistance. Therefore, there exists a need to provide further, improved compositions and methods to combat pests such as fruit flies. [0004] The present disclosure provides bait compositions useful for controlling pests such as fruit flies. The bait compositions exhibit improved efficacy and do not leave a readily visible residue on a surface after application of the bait composition to the surface. This feature of the bait composition is especially important when the bait is applied close to fruit harvest and may touch the fruit. BRIEF DESCRIPTION [0005] In one aspect, provided herein is a bait composition comprising: (i) at least one pesticidal active ingredient; (ii) at least one bait; (iii) at least one dispersant; and (iv) at least one thickener in an amount no more than about 0.80 wt%; wherein the bait composition comprises no more than about 6.0 wt% anionic dispersants.
