Abstract
The present invention provides a composition comprising the reaction product of: a) a wax ester selected from jojoba oil, candelilla wax, rice bran wax, orange peel wax and mixtures thereof, wherein the wax ester is formed from a carboxylic acid component and an alcohol component; and b) a polyamine selected from diamines, triamines and tetramines, wherein the composition comprises: i) an amide formed from the reaction of the carboxylic acid component of the wax ester and the polyamine; and ii) free alcohol formed from the alcohol component of the wax ester. The invention further provides a composition comprising the reaction product of: a) a wax ester selected from jojoba oil, candelilla wax, rice bran wax, orange peel wax and mixtures thereof; and b) a polyamine selected from diamines, triamines and tetramines; wherein the wax ester is formed from a carboxylic acid component and an alcohol component and wherein the alcohol component of the wax ester is further reacted with: c) an acid selected from trimethylglycine, citric acid, amino acids, dicarboxylic acids and monocarboxylic acids; wherein the composition comprises: i) an amide formed from the carboxylic acid component of the wax ester and the polyamine; and ii) an ester formed from the alcohol component of the wax ester and the acid selected from trimethylglycine, citric acid, amino acids, dicarboxylic acids and monocarboxylic acids. Also provided are personal care formulations, methods and uses.

Claims (1)
- 2103173-000264 Claims: 1. A composition comprising the reaction product of: a) a wax ester selected from jojoba oil, candelilla wax, rice bran wax, orange peel wax and mixtures thereof, wherein the wax ester is formed from a carboxylic acid component and an alcohol component; and b) a polyamine selected from diamines, triamines and tetramines, wherein the composition comprises: i) an amide formed from the reaction of the carboxylic acid component of the wax ester and the polyamine; and ii) free alcohol formed from the alcohol component of the wax ester. 2. A composition according to claim 1 which has at least one of: I) a saponification value from 0.1 to 50 mg KOH/g; and/or II) a hydroxyl value from 0.1 to 100 mg KOH/g. 3. A composition comprising the reaction product of: a) a wax ester selected from jojoba oil, candelilla wax, rice bran wax, orange peel wax and mixtures thereof; and b) a polyamine selected from diamines, triamines and tetramines; wherein the wax ester is formed from a carboxylic acid component and an alcohol component and wherein the alcohol component of the wax ester is further reacted with: c) an acid selected from trimethylglycine, citric acid, amino acids, dicarboxylic acids and monocarboxylic acids; wherein the composition comprises: i) an amide formed from the carboxylic acid component of the wax ester and the polyamine; and ii) an ester formed from the alcohol component of the wax ester and the acid selected from trimethylglycine, citric acid, amino acids, dicarboxylic acids and monocarboxylic acids. 4. A composition according to claim 3 which has at least one of: I) a saponification value from 0.1 to 100 mg KOH/g; and/or II) a hydroxyl value from 0.1 to 100 mg KOH/g; and/or III) an acid value from 0.1 to 50 mg KOH/g. 2103173-000264 5. A composition according to claim 3 or 4, wherein the composition further comprises free alcohol formed from the alcohol component of the wax ester. 6. A composition according to any preceding claim, wherein the composition further comprises an amount of the wax ester which is unreacted. 7. A composition according to any preceding claim wherein the polyamine comprises at least one primary amine group. 8. A composition according to any preceding claim wherein the polyamine does not comprise a quaternary amine group. 9. A composition according to any preceding claim wherein the polyamine comprises at least one group selected from: secondary amine groups and tertiary amine groups. 10. A composition according to any preceding claim wherein the polyamine is dimethylaminopropylamine (DMAPA). 11. A composition according to any preceding claim wherein the wax ester is jojoba oil. 12. A composition according to any preceding claim wherein the reactants a) & b) are used at a molar ratio of one mole of wax ester to 0.5 to 3 moles of polyamine. 13. A personal care formulation comprising a composition according to any preceding claim and a personal care ingredient. 14. A personal care formulation according to claim 13 wherein the personal care ingredient is selected from a hair cleaning agent, hair conditioning agent, hair styling agent, anti-dandruff agent, hair growth promoter, perfume, sunscreen, sunblock, pigment, moisturizer, film former, hair color, make-up agent, thickening agent, emulsifier, humectant, emollient, antiseptic agent, deodorant active, dermatologically acceptable carrier, surfactant, abrasive, absorbent, fragrance, colorant, essential oil, astringent, anti-acne agent, anti-caking agent, anti-foaming agent, anti-oxidant, binder, enzyme, enzyme inhibitor, enzyme activator, coenzyme, botanical extract, ceramide, buffering agent, bulking 2103173-000264 agent, chelating agent, cosmetic biocide, external analgesic, substantivity increasing agent, opacifying agent, pH adjuster, reducing agent, sequestrant, skin bleaching and/or lightening agent, skin conditioning agent, skin soothing and/or healing agent, skin treating agent, vitamin or preservative. 15. A hair care formulation comprising a composition according to any of claims 1 to 12 and a hair care ingredient, wherein the hair care formulation is for topical application to hair. 16. A hair care formulation according to claim 15 wherein the hair care ingredient is selected from hair cleaning agents, hair conditioning agents, hair styling agents, anti- dandruff agents, hair growth promoters, shine enhancers, moisturisers, herbal additives, hair strengtheners, vitamin additives, colorants, hair thickening agents; setting and styling agents; ultraviolet absorbers; silicone oils; essential oils and fragrances; thickening or viscosity-enhancing agents; stabilising agents; emollients; chelating agents; sequestering agents; preservatives; disinfectants; anti-oxidants/radical scavengers; antistatic agents; detangling agents; emulsifying or dispersing agents. 17. A method of treating hair comprising the steps of: i) applying to the hair a composition according to any of claims 1 to 12; and ii) optionally, rinsing the composition off the hair. 18. A method according to claim 17 wherein the method comprises one or more steps selected from bleaching, colouring, straightening, perming, curling, relaxing, fixing, holding, shaping, styling, thermal treatment, cleaning or conditioning of the hair. 19. Use of a composition according to any of claims 1 to 12 for the conditioning of hair.

2103173-000264 COMPOSITIONS AND USE OF THE COMPOSITIONS IN PERSONAL CARE Field of the Invention The present invention relates to compositions comprising the reaction product of a wax ester and a polyamine and the use of such compositions in personal care formulations, in particular for application to human skin or hair, preferably in hair care formulations. Background Personal care is necessary for human well-being. The need for personal care formulations such as hair care formulations is well-known. Such formulations may be used for cleaning, conditioning or styling human hair or addressing various problems encountered with human hair, for example, by treatments such as bleaching or colouring or by environmental factors, such as sun, heat and pollution. Some hair care formulations are also directed at improving qualities of the hair such as strength, shine or ease of brushing/combing. There is a continual need for the development of improved personal care formulations, in particular hair care formulations, and compositions for use as ingredients in such formulations. Summary of the Invention It is an object of the present invention to address one or more disadvantages associated with the prior art. Surprisingly, it has been found by the inventors that the reaction product of a wax ester and a polyamine selected from diamines, triamines or tetramines has a beneficial effect on the condition of human hair, as measured and described herein. According to a first aspect, the present invention provides a composition comprising the reaction product of: a) a wax ester selected from jojoba oil, candelilla wax, rice bran wax, orange peel wax and mixtures thereof, wherein the wax ester is formed from a carboxylic acid component and an alcohol component; and 2103173-000264 b) a polyamine selected from diamines, triamines and tetramines, wherein the composition comprises: i) an amide formed from the reaction of the carboxylic acid component of the wax ester and the polyamine; and ii) free alcohol formed from the alcohol component of the wax ester. According to a second aspect, the present invention provides a composition comprising the reaction product of: a) a wax ester selected from jojoba oil, candelilla wax, rice bran wax, orange peel wax and mixtures thereof; and b) a polyamine selected from diamines, triamines and tetramines; wherein the wax ester is formed from a carboxylic acid component and an alcohol component and wherein the alcohol component of the wax ester is further reacted with: c) an acid selected from trimethylglycine, citric acid, amino acids, dicarboxylic acids and monocarboxylic acids; wherein the composition comprises: i) an amide formed from the carboxylic acid component of the wax ester and the polyamine; and ii) an ester formed from the alcohol component of the wax ester and the acid selected from trimethylglycine, citric acid, amino acids, dicarboxylic acids and monocarboxylic acids. According to a third aspect, the present invention provides a personal care formulation comprising a composition according to the first or second aspect and a personal care ingredient. According to a fourth aspect, the present invention provides a hair care formulation comprising a composition according to the first or second aspect and a hair care ingredient, wherein the hair care formulation is for topical application to hair. According to a fifth aspect, the present invention provides a method of treating hair comprising the steps of: i) applying to the hair a composition according to the first or second aspect; and ii) optionally, rinsing the composition off the hair. 2103173-000264 According to a sixth aspect, the present invention provides the use of a composition according to the first or second aspect for the conditioning of hair. Additionally, when describing the number of carbon atoms in, for example fatty acids, this refers to the total number of carbon atoms including the one at the carboxylic acid, and any present in any branch groups.
