The invention relates to a thickening urethane copolymer prepared using cyclohexanol substituted with a linear or branched C4-C24-alkyl group or with a linear or branched C4-C24-alkylene group. The method for preparing this copolymer and its use in aqueous compositions, particularly in coating compositions, also form part of the invention.
