Abstract

Process for producing a metal or metal alloy and corresponding melting furnace The process comprises the following steps: - melting solid metal elements (7); - refining the molten metal; - transferring the molten metal into a molding ring (11) and drawing an ingot (15); a height of the molten metal bath (23) in the molding ring (11) being automatically maintained within a predetermined range by automatically measuring the height of the molten metal bath (23), automatically determining a drawing speed for the ingot (15), and controlling the drawing of the ingot (15) using said drawing speed, the height of the molten metal bath (23) being measured by implementing the following operations: - (S10) periodic acquisition of images of the molding ring (11) showing an inner wall (20) of the molding ring (11) and the molten metal bath (23); - (S20) determination on the images of a position of a free surface (31) of said molten metal bath (23) along the inner wall (20); - (S30) evaluation of said position on a predetermined height scale.
