There is disclosed an electrolyte solution intended for patients who have undergone rectosigmoidectomy and prophylactic ileostomy. In the case of an ileostomy, the bypass of the large intestine entails dehydration and electrolyte disorders demonstrably prevented by this invention. The purpose of the invention is its preventive and therapeutic effect on the disturbed electrolyte profile as well as the reduced hospital admissions due to dehydration in patients with newly constructed ileostomy.
