SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SCHEDULING

Abstract

In an aspect of the present disclosure there is provided a method and system for assigning a plurality of personnel of an organisation to segments of a prospective scheduling period. Personnel unavailability relating to the prospective scheduling period is captured, and a rules module is populated with constraints which determine the eligibility of personnel for assignment. Initial assignments for personnel are generated after excluding unavailable personnel, determined by selecting personnel for each segment based on an overall fairness score. The initial assignment is performed and violations determined before generating tentative updated assignments of personnel to segments which reduce detected violations by executing a change in at least one personnel assignment. If tentative updated assignments increase the overall fairness score across all personnel allocations and/or which lower determined violation scores such changes are accepted. This is repeated for a predetermined number of iterations.
