Description

With regard to the rotation of the upper part 268 for dispensing a predetermined amount of product 254, in various embodiments, but not limited to these, rotations in increments such as 90 degrees may be employed for 1, 2, 3, and 4 volumes of metered doses of product 254, allowing for increments of 90, 180, 292, and 360 degrees. More specifically, for a pill cartridge 600, the dispenser 256 is at least partially supplied by an articulated head 602 positioned on a reservoir 252 of stacked products 254. When the lockout 260 is released, the head 602 rotates upward, causing the dosing tab 604 to rotate forward to contact the top pill 606 for administration to the user 102 and move it laterally. When the articulated head is closed, a count trigger 262 in the form of a rod 608 is pressed down, which is recorded by the control base 106. A strip cartridge 700 is also illustrated to show at least one alternative to the lockout 260. As shown in Figures 7A and 7B, the lockout is achieved by a rotating rod 712, the distal end 714 of which provides a flange 716. When the rod 712 is rotated to a first position 718, the flange 710 prevents the rotation of the dispenser pad 702. Since rotation of the dispenser pad 702 cannot be achieved with the flange 716 in this first position 718, the lockout is achieved. The lockout 260 is released by rotating the rod 712 to a second position 720, which frees the flange 716 from the dispensing pad 702 and thus allows rotation and dispensing of the strip 702, for example, the upper strip 708. When the upper strip 708 is dispensed, the roller wheel 716 activates the count trigger 262, and the spring 724 pushes the stacked product 254 (strip 702) upward, preparing it for the dispensing of the next strip. Figure 8 provides a conceptual cross-section of the injection cartridge 800. Furthermore, for consistency and in relation to the structure of a typical cartridge 108, the injection cartridge 800 provides a housing 212, a reservoir 252 that dispenses the product 254, a dispenser 256, a data chip 216 (which provides a unique identifier 258), a lockout 260, and a count trigger 262.
