Abstract

[Problem] In a horizontal seatback position, it becomes difficult to insert a hand from the side between the front of the seatback and the top of the seat cushion, making it difficult to raise the seatback. This invention discloses a technology to solve this problem. [Solution] The seat back of the present disclosure is a foldable seat back that folds toward the seat cushion, comprising a cushion member and a cover member that covers a part of the front side of the cushion member and is harder than the seat cushion, wherein the cover member is integrally molded with the cushion member. Description

This disclosure relates to a seat back rotatably supported with respect to a seat cushion, and a vehicle seat equipped with the seat back. Conventionally, this type of seat back is known to fold forward to a horizontal position, with its front surface contacting the upper surface of the seat cushion (see, for example, Patent Document 1). Japanese Patent Publication No. 2021-123201 (paragraph [0017], Figure 4) Figure 1 is a perspective view of a vehicle seat according to the first embodiment.Figure 2 is a perspective view of the cover member integrally molded with the cushion member.Figure 3 is a side view of a vehicle seat positioned horizontally.Figure 4 is a front view of the cushioning member.Figure 5 is a perspective view of the cover member.Figure 6A is a side cross-sectional view of a foam molding die into which foaming material has been injected, and Figure 6B is a side cross-sectional view of a foam molding die into which a cushioning member has been formed inside the cavity.Figures 7A, 7B, and 7C are perspective views of cover members according to other embodiments.Figure 8A is a cross-sectional view of a conventional vehicle seat, and Figure 8B is a cross-sectional view of a vehicle seat according to the first embodiment.Figure 9 is a perspective view of a cover member according to another embodiment. [First Embodiment] Referring to Figures 1 to 6, a vehicle seat 100 according to one embodiment of the present disclosure will be described. The vehicle seat 100 of this embodiment shown in Figure 1 comprises, for example, a pair of seat backs 10, a simple seat back 102 that also serves as an armrest and is sandwiched between them, and a seat cushion 101 to which each seat back 10 and the simple seat back 102 are rotatably assembled. The simple seat back 102 is connected to one of the seat backs 10 by a connecting mechanism (not shown), and normally the simple seat back 102 rotates together with one of the seat backs 10, and when the connection by the connecting mechanism is released, only the simple seat back 102 can be rotated forward. Hereafter, when the seat back 10 and the simplified seat back 102 are not distinguished, they will be referred to as "seat backs 10 and 102." Furthermore, in the seat backs 10 and 102 and the seat cushion 101, the side closer to the pivot point of the seat backs 10 and 102 will be referred to as the "base end," "base tip," etc., and the side further away will be referred to as the "tip end," "tip," etc. Additionally, the side of the seat backs 10 and 102 facing the seated person will be referred to as the "front side," "front," etc., and the opposite side will be referred to as the "rear side," "rear," etc. The vehicle seat 100 is used, for example, as a rear seat in a vehicle. The seatbacks 10 and 102 are aligned in the vehicle width direction and assembled to the vehicle body so that the occupant faces the direction of travel. The seatbacks 10 and 102 are foldable and can be tilted towards the seat cushion 100 to a position where the rear surface is approximately flat and approximately horizontal (hereinafter referred to as the "horizontal position") (see Figure 3). This makes it possible to make the upper surface of the luggage compartment and the rear surface of the horizontally positioned seatbacks 10 and 102 approximately flush in vehicles with a luggage compartment behind the vehicle seat 100. Furthermore, in a three-row vehicle where the rear two rows are vehicle seats 100, it becomes possible to make the rear surfaces of the horizontally positioned seatbacks 10 and 102 of the rear two rows approximately flush. The side portion of the seatback 10 located on the outer side in the vehicle width direction (hereinafter referred to as the "outward-facing side portion 13") faces outwards through the vehicle's entrance/exit when the seatback is in a horizontal position. This allows a person standing outside the entrance/exit to reach the outward-facing side portion 13 of the horizontally positioned seatback 10 and raise it to its normal operating position (hereinafter referred to as the "normal operating position"). Furthermore, while the vehicle seat 100 in this embodiment has a maximum seating capacity of three people, it may also be designed for two or one person. Also, while the vehicle seat 100 is installed in the vehicle body so that the occupants face the direction of travel, it may also be installed so that the occupants face the opposite direction of travel, or it may be rotatable, allowing selection between a first position facing the direction of travel and a second position facing the opposite direction. Moreover, while the vehicle seat 100 is used in the rear seat of the vehicle, it may also be used in the front seat. When the seatbacks 10 and 102 are tilted forward, their front surfaces are pressed against the upper surface of the seat cushion 101, resulting in the aforementioned horizontal position and stability (see Figure 3). Furthermore, to allow fo
