Abstract

The present invention relates to a deodorizing composition for removing elderly odors comprising a Magnolia officinalis extract containing coclaurine. More specifically, the coclaurine contained in the Magnolia officinalis extract directly combines with nonenal, a substance causing elderly odor, to form a new compound, which can exhibit an excellent deodorizing effect that improves elderly odors by directly removing nonenal.

Description

Deodorant composition comprising Magnoliae extract or fraction for removing old person smell The present invention relates to a Magnolia officinalis extract for removing senile odor, and more specifically, to a deodorizing composition comprising a Magnolia officinalis extract containing coclaurine, which has excellent deodorizing power against nonenal, the main component causing senile odor. The term "elderly" refers to individuals aged 65 or older. As of 2015, the elderly population in Korea accounted for 13.1% of the total population, but this proportion has been increasing annually. With projections indicating that the figure will reach 20.6% by 2025—entering a super-aged society—new challenges and issues are being raised across various aspects. From the age of 40 onwards, regardless of gender, a decline in metabolic capacity due to physical aging leads to less active breakdown and elimination of waste products, resulting in a significant accumulation of toxins on the skin. A distinctive "elderly odor" is generated by substances produced during the oxidative decomposition of 9-hexadecenoic acid (palmitoleic acid), a fatty acid found in the sebaceous glands, into lipid peroxides as a result of aging. This characteristic smell is known as "senior body odor" and can affect the quality of life and social participation of the elderly. To solve this, research is needed to eliminate the characteristic elderly odor by removing nonenal (trans-2-Nonenal), the main causative substance of the elderly odor (J Invest Dermatol. 2001 Apr;116(4):520-4). Nonenal has been removed through chemical treatment, the most common method, but safety concerns have been raised. Additionally, there are domestically developed products such as general soaps and body care products based on surfactants. However, these products lack the ability to remove nonenal and instead cause skin side effects such as itching and dryness. Furthermore, while air fresheners can be used to mask the odor, their effect is temporary as they merely cover the smell with strong scents; this can also lead to an unpleasant smell due to the mixing of different odors. Magnoliae Flos refers to the flower buds of Magnolia biondii Pampanini, Magnolia denudata Desrousseaux, Magnolia kobus De Candolle, and Magnolia sprengeri Pampanini (Magnoliaceae). It has a distinctive fragrance, a warm nature, a pungent taste, and is non-toxic. Magnoliae Flos is one of the commonly used herbal medicines for managing symptoms of allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, and headaches, and is also recommended as an analgesic and decongestant. Figure 1 shows the deodorizing power according to the concentration of the extract. Figure 2 shows the deodorizing power according to the fraction. Figure 3 shows the deodorizing power according to the extract of the cinnamon in each solvent. Figure 4 shows the HPLC results confirming the nonenal deodorizing effect of coclaurine contained in the cinnabar and the compound produced by binding as time progresses. Figure 5 shows the results of comparing the deodorizing power of the Magnolia officinalis extract and the Magnolia officinalis extract. Figure 6 shows the results of confirming the profiles of the Magnolia officinalis extract and Magnolia officinalis extract using HPLC.
