Abstract

The dark ride tower system (10) comprises a tower having first and second floors (18, 26). The first floor (18) comprises a fixed room (20) having a fixed wall (22), and the second floor (26) comprises an adaptive room (28) having an adaptive wall (30) configured to be rearranged into a plurality of physical configurations. The dark ride tower system (10) further comprises a lift system (36) configured to alternately move a ride vehicle (16) between the first floor and the second floor (18, 26). In addition, the dark ride tower system (10) comprises a first projection system (24) configured to generate a projection mapping on the fixed wall (22) to simulate the movement of the ride vehicle (16) relative to the fixed room (20) while the ride vehicle (16) is placed within the fixed room (20). The dark ride tower system (10) further includes a second projection system (32) configured to generate projection mapping on an adaptive wall (30) to provide a show scene while the ride vehicle (16) is placed within the adaptive room (28).

  1. The present disclosure generally relates to the field of amusement park rides. More specifically, embodiments of the present invention relate to a dark ride tower system configured to transfer a ride vehicle between a fixed room and an adaptive room. This section is intended to introduce the reader to various aspects of the technology that may be relevant to the various aspects of the present disclosure. It is believed that this discussion helps provide the reader with background information to facilitate a better understanding of the various aspects of the present disclosure. Accordingly, it should be noted that these statements should be read in this context and are not an acknowledgment of the prior art. Amusement parks include various features that provide unique experiences to guests at each park. Some features may include ride vehicles that can travel along specific paths. The paths may include elements, and accordingly, these elements can enhance the guest experience as the ride vehicles move along the paths. For example, as the ride vehicles travel along the paths, they may enter and exit multiple rooms, each containing elements that enhance the guest experience. However, it is now being recognized that the ability to simulate more complex viewing experiences in relatively compact spaces can further enhance the guest experience. A summary of specific embodiments disclosed in this specification is described below. In practice, this disclosure may include various aspects that may not be described below. In a specific embodiment, a dark ride tower system for an amusement park comprises a tower having a first floor and a second floor. The first floor comprises a fixed room having fixed walls, and the second floor comprises an adaptive room having adaptive walls configured to be rearranged into a plurality of physical configurations. The dark ride tower system further comprises a ride vehicle configured to transport one or more guests of the amusement park. The dark ride tower system further comprises a lift system configured to alternately move the ride vehicle between the first floor and the second floor. Additionally, the dark ride tower system comprises a first projection system configured to generate projection mapping on the fixed walls to simulate the movement of the ride vehicle relative to the fixed room while the ride vehicle is placed within the fixed room. The dark ride tower system also comprises a second projection system configured to generate projection mapping on the adaptive walls to provide a show scene while the ride vehicle is placed within the adaptive room. The dark ride tower system further includes a controller configured to synchronize the movement of the ride vehicle caused by the lift system, the rearrangement of the adaptive wall, and the generation of projection mapping to the fixed and adaptive walls through the first and second projection systems. Additionally, in certain embodiments, the method comprises using a lift system to alternately move a ride vehicle between a first floor comprising a fixed room having fixed walls and a second floor comprising an adaptive room having adaptive walls configured to be rearranged into a plurality of physical configurations. The method further comprises generating a projection mapping on the fixed walls via a first projection system to simulate the movement of the ride vehicle relative to the fixed room while the ride vehicle is placed within the fixed room. The method further comprises operating the adaptive walls to rearrange from the first physical configuration to the second physical configuration while the ride vehicle is placed within the fixed room. The method further comprises generating a projection mapping on the adaptive walls via a second projection system to provide a show scene while the ride vehicle is placed within the adaptive room. In addition, in certain embodiments, a dark ride system for an amusement park comprises a fixed room having fixed walls and an adaptive room having adaptive walls configured to be rearranged into a plurality of physical configurations. The dark ride system further comprises a ride vehicle configured to transport one or more guests of the amusement park. The dark ride system further comprises a lift system configured to alternately move the ride vehicle between the fixed room and the adaptive room. The dark ride system further comprises a f
