Description

Electrode Assembly for Secondary Battery and Cylindrical Secondary Battery comprising the same The present disclosure relates to a cylindrical secondary battery. Generally, a cylindrical secondary battery includes an electrode assembly wound in a cylindrical shape, a cylindrical can containing the electrode assembly and an electrolyte, and a cap assembly coupled to an opening at one end of the can to seal the can and allow current generated from the electrode assembly to flow to an external device. The electrode assembly is composed of a positive electrode plate coated with a positive active material, a negative electrode plate coated with a negative active material, and a separator interposed between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate to prevent a short circuit. In addition, cylindrical secondary batteries use tabs as terminals for electrical connection, primarily employing a method where a metal tab (e.g., aluminum for the positive electrode, nickel/nickel plating or alloy for the negative electrode) is welded onto the uncoated area of the electrode plate after it has been formed. However, if internal stress increases due to the composition and components of the electrode, factors such as the thickness and strength of the tab can cause cracking of the electrode plates and deformation of the electrode assembly, which may adversely affect the safety and reliability of the battery. Therefore, there is a need for a method to resolve these issues. The information described above disclosed in the background technology of this invention is intended only to enhance understanding of the background of the present invention and may therefore include information that does not constitute prior art.
