Abstract

The present invention relates to an anti-inflammatory composition containing quercetin-4-glucoside as an active ingredient. More specifically, it was confirmed that quercetin-4-glucoside has an anti-inflammatory effect by reducing the expression of TLR4, IL-1β, TNF-α, or IL-6, increasing the expression of p62 or BECN1 (beclin1) proteins, and reducing the expression of NLRP3 or IL-18. This can be utilized in various ways, such as in health functional foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical compositions.

Description

Anti-inflammatory health functional food composition comprising quercetin-4-glucoside as an active ingredient The present invention provides a health functional food composition for anti-inflammatory purposes comprising quercetin-4-glucoside as an active ingredient. An inflammatory response is a series of complex physiological reactions involving various inflammatory mediators and immune cells in local blood vessels and body fluids, such as enzyme activation, secretion of inflammatory mediators, fluid infiltration, cell migration, and tissue destruction, as well as external symptoms such as erythema, edema, fever, and pain, that occur when tissues or cells are damaged or infected by external infectious agents (bacteria, fungi, viruses, and various types of allergens). Specifically, when external bacteria invade a specific tissue and proliferate, the body's white blood cells recognize this and actively attack the proliferated external bacteria. During this process, dead white blood cells accumulate in the tissue invaded by the bacteria, and at the same time, the cellular debris of the invading bacteria killed by the white blood cells lyses into the invaded tissue, forming an abscess. In normal cases, the inflammatory response removes external infectious agents and regenerates damaged tissues to restore the function of the living organism; however, if antigens are not removed or if the inflammatory response becomes excessive or persistent due to internal substances, it can lead to life-threatening diseases such as acute inflammation, diseases within the joints like rheumatoid arthritis, skin diseases manifesting in the form of psoriasis, and allergic inflammatory diseases like bronchial asthma. It also becomes an impediment to treatment processes such as blood transfusion, drug administration, and organ transplantation. TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor-α) is produced by activated macrophages and various other cells during the host immune response to bacterial infections and tumor diseases. This cytokine is also known as an important mediator of inflammatory responses and is an inflammatory cytokine that plays a significant role in inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis, Crohn's disease, psoriasis, and ankylosing spondylitis (AS). For example, in rheumatoid arthritis, TNF-α sustains synovial inflammation and continuously destroys bone and cartilage. Therefore, since it is necessary to inhibit the specific biological activity of TNF-α, various biological agents that inhibit TNF-α are being developed for the purpose of blocking TNF-α-mediated cellular responses and modulating the activity of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the processes regulated by TNF-α.
