Description

Bolt Lock Back System for a Magazine This patent application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/818,555, titled “Bolt Lock Back System for a Magazine,” filed on March 14, 2019, which is assigned to the assignee of this application and is expressly incorporated herein by reference. The present disclosure generally relates to firearm magazines. In particular, but without limitation, the present disclosure relates to systems, methods, and devices for a magazine having a unique bolt catch mechanism. At least one disclosed drum magazine has a bolt catch engaging feature within the magazine's feed tower configured to engage with the bolt catch within the weapon to lock the bolt in the rear position after the last cartridge has been fired. While functional and reliable on some firearm platforms, such as AR-style platforms, this drum magazine is not compatible with others, such as the CZ Scorpion. Lasichak (US8733224) discloses a drum magazine having a bolt stop actuator arranged in a vertical channel at the rear of a supply tower that is deflected upward when the stop actuator follower contacts the bottom of the bolt stop actuator. However, the stop actuator follower requires a deflected plunger that extends into the vertical channel when the stop actuator follower enters the supply tower, and this plunger is prone to jamming. The stop actuator follower may also have a tendency to rotate while interfacing with the bottom of the bolt stop actuator, which causes unnecessary friction between these two components. SureFire offers high-capacity magazines utilizing nesting polymer (i.e., multi-piece) followers. However, these magazines are also not suitable for use with the bolt catch of CZ Scorpion-type receivers. Therefore, an alternative bolt catch mechanism is required for magazines (e.g., drum magazines, single-stack magazines, or double-stack magazines) that work with specific gun platforms such as the CZ Scorpion.
