Abstract
The objective of the present invention is to provide a feed composition for preventing or improving atopic dermatitis in companion animals, comprising bacteriophages and evening primrose seed oil as active ingredients. It has been confirmed that the mixture of bacteriophages and evening primrose seed oil according to the present invention is excellent for improving atopic dermatitis. Specifically, when the mixture of bacteriophages and evening primrose seed oil was fed to companion animals as a feed composition, it was confirmed that skin lesions on the entire body of the companion animals improved, and that itching and the condition of the skin and coat improved. Therefore, the feed composition for preventing or improving atopic dermatitis in companion animals, comprising bacteriophages and evening primrose seed oil as active ingredients according to the present invention, can be usefully utilized in related businesses.

Description
Feed composition for preventing or improving atopic dermatitis in companion animals, containing bacteriophage and evening primrose oil as active ingredients The object of the present invention is to a feed composition for preventing or improving atopic dermatitis in companion animals, comprising bacteriophages and evening primrose seed oil as active ingredients. Specifically, the invention relates to a feed composition and health supplement for companion animals composed of a complex mixture of bacteriophages, which are natural antibiotics, and evening primrose seed oil, which has anti-inflammatory and skin barrier strengthening effects. After bacteriophages penetrate a host and complete the replication process, they express a group of enzymes necessary to break down the cell wall of the host bacterium. These enzymes destroy the cell wall by attacking the murein or peptidoglycan layer of the cell wall, which is responsible for the rigidity and mechanical strength of the cell wall. This is attributed to gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is contained in evening primrose seed oil at a concentration of about 7–14%. The above gamma-linolenic acid is an unsaturated fatty acid and serves as the matrix for a physiologically active substance called prostaglandin (PG). Gamma-linolenic acid contained in evening primrose seed oil is widely used globally as an ingredient in health supplements and pharmaceuticals, as it is known to be effective in lowering cholesterol, reducing blood pressure, and preventing adult diseases. However, the fatty acids in evening primrose seed oil contain cis-type unsaturated fatty acids, so they easily undergo oxidation by light or heat, and thus denaturation due to changes in composition, oxidation, and the formation of lipid peroxides acts as a limiting factor in production and storage. Due to demographic changes resulting from an aging population and a surge in single-person households, as well as increased income, the number of households owning pets is on the rise and is evolving from mere pets to life companions. Reflecting this trend, the size of the domestic pet-related market is projected to reach 9 trillion won in 2012, 1.8 trillion won in 2015, and 5.8 trillion won in 2020, indicating that steady market growth is expected in the future. Despite the market's growth trend, foreign brands currently account for over 70% of the pet food market. Consequently, there is a need for measures to improve the low trust in domestic products, identify consumer needs in advance, reduce dependence on imports, and increase the market share of domestic products. Atopy is a chronic, recurrent inflammatory skin disease caused by factors such as rapid environmental changes, genetic factors, immunological abnormalities, and abnormalities in the skin's protective barrier. As the incidence of atopic dermatitis is increasing not only in humans but also in companion animals, interest in treatments to alleviate the condition is growing.
