Description

Display device having a background illumination and means of transport having such a display device The present invention relates to a display panel, a display device having a backlight for the display panel, and a means of transport having such a display device. Such a display device is used in almost all means of transport today, for example, automobiles. The number and area of display devices in transportation vehicles are continuously increasing. Display devices can be found in the market, for example, as driver's instrument panels, as central displays, and also as passenger seat displays. Transmissive display devices, which are not self-illuminating, require a backlight for image representation. The role of the backlight is to illuminate the display panel as uniformly as possible across the entire active surface to produce a display that is as homogeneous as possible, even down to the edge areas. Backlights for display devices are typically based on a light guide in which light from multiple light sources (light-emitting diodes, LEDs) is coupled. The light propagates through total internal reflection in the light guide and is coupled out again using microstructures on the light guide to create a homogeneous light distribution. This design enables compact and efficient illumination of the display panel. As an alternative to backlights based on light guides, so-called matrix backlights can be used. Matrix backlights use multiple light sources arranged in a matrix to generate light. Here, the light sources are arranged on a circuit board mounted on the housing of the backlight. Matrix backlights typically use a metallic body and a plastic reflector. The housing of the backlight serves to provide a structure that allows the backlight to be mounted as a component in the housing of a display device and to hold all components of the backlight together in a mounted state. The reflector of the backlight has a special geometric structure and has multiple cavities that direct light emitted from the light source toward the display panel. This requires a certain distance between the display panel of the display device and the light source to homogenize the light. However, if the installation height of the display device needs to be reduced—which is increasingly common in automotive applications—the installation height of the backlight unit must also be reduced. Those skilled in the art are familiar with display devices having a display panel and a backlight for the display panel in various embodiments. For example, US 2010/141867 A1 describes such a display device in which the display panel, etc., is illuminated from the rear. The device has a display panel and a backlight for the display panel. The backlight comprises a flat light-emitting component having a plurality of light sources and a reflector having a plurality of reflective cavities arranged on the component. A light source is provided to each of the cavities. The flat light-emitting component serves as a support plate for the backlight. As the size of the display device increases, the size of the backlight also increases. These large backlights typically consist of multiple interconnected composite elements. In addition to the housing for the display device, the backlight usually has a separate housing to accommodate its individual components. A disadvantage here is that the housing for the backlight incurs additional costs during production and assembly. Another disadvantage is that the additional housing for the backlight increases the installation height of the display device, making it more difficult to achieve a flatter installation height. Consequently, the display device or backlight can only be used within a limited range in vehicles with low installation heights due to the installation height caused by the additional housing for the backlight. The object of the present invention is to provide an improved display device having a backlight and a means of transport having such a display device, wherein a very flat installation height of the backlight and the display device is achieved, and furthermore, sufficient stability for the backlight and uniform illumination of the display device are ensured. These objectives are achieved according to the present invention by a display device according to the preamble of independent claim 1, together with the features of the feature portion of independent claim 1, and by a means of transport according to claim 7. Preferred embodiments of the present invention are the subject of dependent claims. The present invention provides a display device having a display panel and a backlight for the display panel, wherein the backlight comprises a reflector having a plurality of reflective cavities and a circuit board having a plurality of light sources, the light sources are arranged within individual cavities of the reflector, and the reflector has fastening elements. In this case, the backlight is arranged between t
