Description

System and Method for Managing Foreigner-Customized Medical Tourism Schedule The present invention relates to a method and system for managing a medical tourism itinerary tailored to foreigners, and more specifically, to a system and method for managing a medical tourism itinerary tailored to foreigners who wish to engage in medical tourism using domestic medical institutions and accommodation facilities, which performs consultation in the foreigner's language and, based on this, provides comprehensive support for recommendations, reservations, and payments regarding medical institutions and accommodation facilities suitable for the foreigner. Korea's medical tourism industry has grown rapidly in recent years, recording an all-time high of 606,000 foreign patients in 2023. This figure represents more than double the previous year's increase, indicating high demand primarily for dermatology and plastic surgery. Notably, Japanese patients accounted for approximately 31% of the total, making them the most frequent visitors, followed by China, the United States, and Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, at the policy level, measures to revitalize medical tourism are being pursued, including expanding the issuance of electronic visas by medical institutions, improving immigration procedures, and enhancing Korea's appeal through the use of Hallyu content. Additionally, the establishment of "medical tourism hubs" that integrate tourism and medical services in specific regions, such as Incheon and Daegu, is also being discussed. However, in the medical tourism industry targeting foreigners, language barriers act as a significant problem in communication between foreign patients, medical institutions, and medical tourism companies. In particular, information regarding medical procedures often includes specialized and complex terminology, raising serious concerns that patients may not have a sufficient understanding of their medical condition and treatment process. The problems arising from this are as follows. First, there is the problem of difficulty in conveying accurate medical information. Medical tourists must make important decisions regarding their health, but language barriers make it difficult to fully understand the information or diagnoses provided by medical professionals. In particular, a lack of accurate understanding regarding medical diagnoses and treatment options can lead to misconceptions or misunderstandings, which may result in dissatisfaction with the treatment outcomes. For instance, the likelihood of facing unexpected problems increases due to insufficient explanations regarding the side effects or recovery periods of specific procedures. Secondly, there are issues related to patient safety. A lack of communication between medical staff and patients can threaten patient safety. If communication is not smooth, patients may fail to accurately convey information regarding allergies, medical history, or medications they are taking, which increases the risk of medical errors. Furthermore, in emergency situations, if a patient cannot accurately describe their symptoms or properly understand the instructions of medical staff, immediate and appropriate action may not be taken. Thirdly, there are problems with service and after-sales management. Unlike general tourism, medical tourism places great importance on management and support during the recovery period following a procedure; however, language barriers often hinder smooth follow-up care between medical institutions and patients. Difficulties in communication can lead to patients failing to report discomfort or side effects in a timely manner, or missing necessary additional medical consultations. This problem is exacerbated, particularly for patients residing overseas, who face physical barriers such as time differences or distance. To address the various issues faced by diverse foreign medical tourists who speak foreign languages, medical tourism companies have made efforts such as providing multilingual services, assigning interpreters, and offering translated materials containing important information. However, since it is difficult to completely resolve these problems through such measures alone, there is a need for a system and method that can more efficiently provide integrated support for communication issues with individual medical tourists, overall schedule management, and follow-up care.
