Description
Hybrid aerosol and powder generating consumables and systems The present disclosure relates to a hybrid consumable article, holder, and system for generating an airflow containing an aerosol generated from a sensory medium plug and a dry powder from a capsule for inhalation by a user. The hybrid consumable article comprises a sensory medium that generates an aerosol when heated (and cooled). The aerosol is captured by an airflow through the consumable article and delivered to the user through the airflow. The hybrid consumable article also comprises a capsule containing a dry powder. The capsule containing the dry powder is perforated to release the dry powder into the airflow as the airflow moves through the hybrid consumable article. This airflow containing the dry powder is combined with the aerosol generated from the heated sensory medium to provide the user with an aerosol containing the dry powder and the aerosolized sensory medium. A dry particle inhaler article may comprise a capsule containing dry powder. To release the dry powder from the capsule and introduce the dry powder into the airflow so that the dry powder can be delivered to the user, the capsule may be punctured. The punctured capsule releases its dry powder content into the airflow as air flows past the punctured capsule. The inhaler article is depleted when the contents of the capsule are released into the airflow. The dosage of the pharmaceutically active compound is limited by the content of the capsule. The dosage of the pharmaceutically active compound is also limited by the extent to which the entire contents of the capsule can be released from the capsule and delivered to the user. An electronic aerosol generator may be configured to accommodate a consumable having a sensory medium plug (or aerosol generating material). The sensory medium plug is heated when the consumable is inserted into an electronic aerosol generator having a heater. Air flows through the consumable containing the sensory medium plug. When the sensory medium plug is heated, it releases particles into the heated air, generating vapor. As the vapor cools, an aerosol is formed. The aerosol may be a visible aerosol. An airflow containing the aerosolized sensory medium is delivered to the user. The user must wait for the electronic device to preheat and for the sensory medium plug within the consumable to be heated sufficiently to release particles into the heated air before the aerosolized sensory medium can be inhaled. After use of the consumable or depletion of the sensory medium plug, the consumable may be removed from the device and replaced with a new consumable. The dosage of the pharmaceutically active compound delivered to the user is limited by the aerosol generated by heating the sensory medium plug during the time of the heating cycle. It would be desirable to provide consumables that offer a longer experience. That is, it would be desirable to provide consumables, devices, and systems that allow the user to take more "puffs" containing a pharmaceutically active compound in aerosol form. It would be desirable to provide consumables that deliver a satisfactory dose of the pharmaceutically active compound. It would be desirable to provide consumables, devices, and systems that provide a more consistent dose of the pharmaceutically active compound over several puffs, with each puff containing the desired dose. It would be desirable to provide an aerosol-generating consumable article capable of providing a satisfactory dose of a pharmaceutically active compound in a reduced waiting time. It would also be desirable to provide an aerosol-generating article capable of providing a dose of a dry powder of a pharmaceutically active compound in a first puff while the consumable article is being heated to a temperature sufficient to release an aerosol from a sensory medium. It would be desirable to provide consumables capable of delivering a satisfactory dose of a pharmaceutically active compound while requiring less heat, including lower peak temperatures and shorter heating profiles over multiple puffs. Requiring less heat means drawing less power from the battery within the aerosol generator housing the consumable. If less heat is required, a smaller battery may be used, or the battery may last longer. Lower peak temperatures or shorter heating profiles, individually or in combination, may allow for the use of smaller batteries or provide extended battery life. Additionally, reducing the peak temperature results in a safer device with lower peak temperatures when maintained by the user. It would be desirable to provide a safer device. It would be desirable to provide consumables, devices, and systems capable of providing a longer user experience. Hybrid consumable articles capable of providing both a sensory medium that provides an aerosol when heated and a released dry powder are provided herein. A consumable article having both a sensory medium plug that prov
