Description
Compositions for improving lean body mass, brown adipose tissue, and inhibiting advanced glycation end products The present invention relates to a synergistic composition comprising a combination of extracts or fractions derived from Moringa oleifera, Murraya koenigii, and Curcuma longa, or phytochemicals or mixtures thereof, for increasing lean body mass and brown adipose tissue; accelerating the conversion of white adipose tissue ( WAT ) to brown adipose tissue ( WAT ); inhibiting the overproduction of advanced glycation end products ( AGEs ) and treating disease conditions associated with advanced glycation end products (AGEs). The present invention also relates to a method for increasing lean body mass and brown adipose tissue in a mammal requiring said synergistic composition by supplementing said composition with said composition; a method for converting white adipose tissue (WAT) to brown adipose tissue (WAT); a method for inhibiting the overproduction of advanced glycation end products (AGEs); and a method for treating disease conditions associated with advanced glycation end products (AGEs). Lean body mass is the amount of muscle mass in the body, independent of fat, bone, and other parts. Food supplements based on protein, amino acids, and micronutrients, as well as other approaches to increase muscle mass, are gaining great popularity among athletes and bodybuilders. As athletes continue to strive for improved performance, there is a constant need for newer and more effective supplements to help increase lean body mass, muscle size, and/or strength. While adipose tissue is best known for its role in fat storage, it can also suppress weight gain and metabolic diseases through the action of specialized thermogenic adipocytes. These tissues are referred to as brown adipocytes, which are located in dedicated depots and inherently express high levels of thermogenic genes. Additionally, there exists another form called inducible 'brown-type' adipocytes (also known as beige cells), which develop within white adipose tissue in response to various activators. Both brown and beige adipocytes reduce metabolic diseases and are associated with leanness in humans. Numerous genes and pathways regulating brown and beige adipocyte biology have been identified, providing various promising therapeutic targets for metabolic diseases. Advanced Glycation Products (AGEs) (also known as glycotoxins) are a diverse group of highly active oxidized compounds formed by non-enzymatic reactions between reducing sugars and free amino groups of proteins, lipids, or nucleic acids, which are known as the Maillard or browning reaction. AGEs are formed during normal metabolism and become pathogenic when high levels of AGEs accumulate in tissues and circulation. AGEs play a role in the development and exacerbation of complications in the progression of diabetes, atherosclerosis, the normal aging process, arthritis, cancer, and age-related neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
