Description

Feed Composition for Promoting the Health of Pets Comprising Undaria Pinnatifida Extract The present invention relates to a feed composition for promoting the health of pets containing a sea mustard extract. With the increase in the number of independent one- or two-person households due to factors such as an aging population, low birth rates, and divorce, the domestic dog market has been recording an annual growth rate of 15% to 20% since 2000, and the pet population has reached 15 million. Furthermore, as the perception of pets has recently shifted to that of "companion animals"—members of the family living together—more people are investing generously in their companion animals. Consequently, unlike in the past, the market related to companion animals is expected to continue expanding without being significantly affected by economic conditions or income levels. In particular, the current pet food market is estimated to be worth approximately 340 billion won. Meanwhile, as companion animals are increasingly recognized as members of the family, ensuring they live long and disease-free lives has become crucial for the happiness of pet-owning households. Maintaining and improving a pet's health requires a balanced diet and the strengthening of its immune system. However, in modern living environments, companion animals are also becoming increasingly vulnerable to chronic diseases and inflammation due to various stresses, environmental pollution, and inadequate nutrition. Accordingly, the need for functional feed aimed at promoting the health of companion animals is becoming increasingly prominent, and there is a growing demand for feed compositions based on natural ingredients that can improve the overall health of pets and assist with preventive care. The present invention will be explained in more detail below through the following examples. However, these examples are intended to illustrate the invention and the scope of the invention is not limited to these examples. Preparation Example 1. Preparation of a feed composition containing Undaria pinnatifida extract 70% ethanol was added to powdered sea tangle (obtained from Mokpo Fisheries Food Support Center) and extracted at 60°C for 6 hours. After filtering the extract, the ethanol was evaporated or freeze-dried to concentrate it, thereby producing a sea tangle extract. A feed composition was prepared containing 95 parts by weight of the prepared sea tangle extract relative to 100 parts by weight of the total feed composition, and 5 parts by weight of other vitamins (vitamins B, C, and D) and mineral additives (iron, calcium, and zinc). The sea tangle (obtained from Mokpo Fisheries Food Support Center) was finely chopped, dried, and prepared in powder form. Experimental Example 1. Confirmation of cell viability A feed composition containing the sea mustard extract prepared in Preparation Example 1 was continuously fed to 50 medium-sized dogs aged 5 years or older for 8 weeks, and cell viability was measured to evaluate the health status of cells in the body. Cell viability is an indicator of how well cells are protected from external stress or damage and maintain their function, and is an important measure for evaluating the overall health and immunity of pets. The control group was established as a group that was not fed the feed composition of the present invention (fed conventional pet food or standard vitamins). Feed or supplements in capsule form were fed once a day according to body weight. The experiment was conducted for 8 weeks, and cell viability was observed weekly. Cell viability was measured using leukocytes isolated from the blood of pets and the MTT assay. When comparing the cell survival rates of the experimental group and the control group, the cell survival rate of the animal group fed a feed composition containing sea mustard extract was found to be 20% higher than that of the control group. Experimental Example 2. Confirmation of anti-inflammatory effect A feed composition containing the sea mustard extract prepared in Preparation Example 1 was continuously fed to 50 medium-sized dogs aged 5 years or older for 8 weeks, and changes in the blood concentration of an inflammatory marker (CRP, C-reactive Protein) were measured. CRP is a major inflammatory marker that increases rapidly in the body when an inflammatory response occurs and is used to evaluate health status and immunity levels. As a result of analyzing the blood of the experimental dogs after feeding them for 8 weeks, it was confirmed that CRP levels decreased by an average of 25%, indicating that it had a positive effect on suppressing inflammatory responses and maintaining immune balance in the body. Experimental Example 3. Confirmation of Antioxidant Effect A feed composition containing the sea mustard extract prepared in Preparation Example 1 was continuously fed to 50 medium-sized dogs aged 5 years or older for 8 weeks, and changes in the concentration of the antioxidant e
