Claims (20)

  1. 1. A fiber optic system comprising
  2. aspiration tube;
  3. optical fiber outside the suction tube; and
  4. a sleeve surrounding the optical fiber and the aspiration tube, the sleeve comprising:
  5. a distal portion that forms a channel passing between the aspiration tube and the distal opening of the coupling, wherein the channel and the aspiration tube form an aspiration path, and the optical fiber is partially located within the channel.
  6. 2. The fiber optic system of claim 1, wherein the channel is located at an angle in the direction of the optical fiber guide and ends at the distal opening.
  7. 3. The fiber optic system of claim 2, wherein the fiber optic guide partially surrounds the fiber optic and terminates at the distal opening.
  8. 4. The fiber optic system of claim 3, wherein the distal portion of the coupling comprises a flange extending from the optical fiber guide.
  9. 5. The fiber optic system of claim 4, wherein the flange forms the distal surface.
  10. 6. A fiber optic system comprising
  11. aspiration tube;
  12. optical fiber outside the suction tube; and
  13. a distal attachment, wherein the distal attachment comprises:
  14. a channel extending between the aspiration tube and the distal opening, wherein the channel and the aspiration tube form an aspiration path, and wherein the optical fiber is partially located within the channel.
  15. 7. The fiber optic system of claim 6, wherein the aspiration path is further formed by a hypotube located at the distal end of the aspiration tube.
  16. 8. The fiber optic system of claim 6, wherein the fiber optic port surrounds the distal portion of the fiber optic and terminates at the distal opening of the distal attachment.
  17. 9. The fiber optic system of claim 8, wherein the channel is angled toward the fiber optic port and terminates at the distal opening.
  18. 10. The fiber optic system of claim 9, wherein the distal portion of the distal attachment comprises a flange extending from the fiber optic port.
  19. 11. A fiber optic system comprising
  20. aspiration tube;
