Claims (10)

  1. 1. A composition characterized in that it contains a polypeptide consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1 and a suitable carrier, wherein the carrier comprises 1× PBS buffer pH 7.4.
  2. 2. The composition according to claim 1, characterized in that it may additionally contain an additive and/or a starch depressant.
  3. 3. The composition according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the additive is an alcohol, ester or oil, preferably a plant additive.
  4. 4. The composition according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the plant additive is ethanol in a ratio of 10-12/140,000 (vol/vol) (from 0.7% to 1.4%), ethyl dodecanoate in a ratio of 1-2/140,000 (vol/vol) (from 0.07% to 0.14%), essential oils such as lemongrass and/or eucalyptus essential oil in a ratio of 1-2/140,000 (vol/vol) (from 0.07% to 0.14%) relative to the final volume of the flotation medium.
  5. 5. The composition of any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the plant additive is present in an amount in the range of from about 1/140,000 (v/v) (0.07%) to about 10/140,000 (v/v) (0.7%) in the flotation medium.
  6. 6. A method for separating silicon dioxide from a medium, characterized in that it includes applying to the medium from which the silicon dioxide is to be separated a composition according to any one of paragraphs 1-5.
  7. 7. The method according to paragraph 6, characterized in that the method of separating silicon dioxide from the medium is the processing of ore.
  8. 8. The method according to paragraph 6 or 7, characterized in that the ore to be processed is iron ore.
  9. 9. The method according to claim 7, characterized in that the processing process is the flotation of quartz.
  10. 10. The method according to any one of paragraphs 6-9, characterized in that a starch depressant may optionally be added to the reaction medium.
