Claims (20)

  1. 1. A device for producing a cast sheet for a smoking article, comprising:
  2. a continuous mixer (2) configured to mix the ingredients of the composition and water to form a suspension mixture; wherein the continuous mixer (2) is configured to limit the mixing path (4) and has at least one inlet opening communicating with the mixing path (4), wherein the at least one inlet opening is configured to feed the ingredients and water into the mixing path (4), and an outlet opening (28) located at the end of the mixing path (4), wherein the outlet opening (28) is configured to release the suspension mixture from the continuous mixer (2); wherein the continuous mixer (2) is configured to mix the ingredients and water while moving the said ingredients and water along the mixing path (4) to the outlet opening (28); wherein the continuous mixer (2) comprises at least one mixing tool (5) located on the mixing path (4) and configured to mix the ingredients and water and move the ingredients and water and the suspension mixture along the mixing path (4); wherein at least one mixing tool (5) is configured to rotate around an axis (X-X) parallel to the mixing path (4); wherein at least one inlet comprises a plurality of inlet openings for ingredients and an inlet opening for water; wherein the mixing path (4) and the axis (X-X) are horizontal, and the continuous mixer (2) is a horizontal mixer;
  3. a casting box (32) in fluid communication with an outlet (28) for receiving a suspension mixture from a continuous mixer (2);
  4. a surface located under the casting box (32) and configured to receive the suspension mixture from said casting box (32) and form a cast sheet (42).
  5. 2. The device according to claim 1, in which the outlet opening (28) of the continuous mixer (2) is directly connected to the casting box (32), or the device (1) comprises a buffer tank (44) located between the outlet opening (28) of the continuous mixer (2) and the casting box (32).
  6. 3. The device according to claim 2, comprising a pump (47) located between the outlet (28) of the continuous mixer (2) and the casting box (32) for pumping the suspension mixture into the casting box (32), wherein the pump (47) is optionally configured to operate between the buffer tank (44) and the casting box (32).
  7. 4. The device according to any one of claims 1-3, comprising a plurality of ingredient reservoirs connected to a plurality of ingredient inlets, and a water reservoir (25) or water source operatively connected to the water inlet.
  8. 5. A device according to any one of claims 1-4, wherein at least one mixing tool (5) comprises at least two mixing tools rotating around parallel axes.
  9. 6. A device according to any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the plurality of inlet openings are located at different positions along the continuous mixer (2) or are grouped in one place on the continuous mixer (2).
  10. 7. A device according to any one of paragraphs 1-6, comprising a two-way valve (30) located at the outlet (28) of the continuous mixer (2); wherein the two-way valve (30) is configured to supply the suspension mixture to the casting box (32) or to redirect the suspension mixture to the drain (31).

A device according to any one of claims 1 to 7, comprising a screw conveyor (11) having an inlet (15) provided with a hopper (17) and an outlet (16) connected to at least one inlet of a continuous mixer (2); wherein at least two of the plurality of ingredient tanks are configured to communicate with the hopper (17).
  12. 9. The device according to any one of claims 1-8, comprising a control unit (54) operatively connected to the continuous mixer (2), wherein the control unit (54) is configured to monitor and control at least one operating parameter of the continuous mixer (2), optionally energy consumption and/or rotation speed and/or temperature and/or torque of at least one mixing tool (5).
  13. 10. A method for producing a cast sheet for a smoking article, carried out by means of a device according to any one of paragraphs 1-9, comprising:
  14. feeding the ingredients of the composition and water through at least one inlet and into the mixing path (4) of the continuous mixer (2);
  15. mixing ingredients and water while moving said ingredients and water along a mixing path (4) in the direction of an outlet (28) of a continuous mixer (2) to form a suspension mixture and discharging the suspension mixture from the outlet (28);
  16. casting the suspension mixture coming from the outlet (28) onto the surface to form a cast sheet (42);
  17. The holding time of the ingredients and water and the suspension mixture in the continuous mixer (2) is from 1 min to 20 min.
  18. 11. The method according to claim 10, wherein at least during steady state operation, feeding, mixing and casting are carried out simultaneously.
  19. 12. The method according to claim 10 or 11, wherein at least during steady state operation the suspension mixture moves in a continuous flow from the continuous mixer (2) to the surface.
  20. 13. The method according to any one of paragraphs 10-12, according to which the holding time is from 5 minutes to 15 minutes, optionally from 8 minutes to 10 minutes.
