US-12616788-B2 - Clinical notifications
Abstract
Methods, computer systems, and computer-storage medium are provided for providing clinical information for a person, such as a test result, in real time where the information is automatically pushed to a selected notification device of a physician. A graphical representation is generated for a clinician to select clinical notification options. Received selections create a notification to be automatically sent to one or more clinician devices. Automatic notifications reduce delay in clinician action when new clinician information is provided.

Description
CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS This disclosure is a continuation of U.S. Non-Provisional patent application Ser. No. “16/236,881” filed Dec. 31, 2018, entitled “CLINICAL NOTIFICATIONS”, inventors: Michael McCURDY, Matt R. ANDERSON and Matthew Joseph HENKES; which claims benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. “62/612,482” filed Dec. 31, 2017 entitled “CLINICAL NOTIFICATIONS”, inventors Michael McCURDY, Matt R. ANDERSON and Matthew Joseph HENKES, and assigned to the present assignee, which are incorporated by reference herein in their entirety. BACKGROUND Today, the speed at which individuals receive medical care is dependent upon manual processes. For instance, a patient's treatment is dependent upon the ordering physician's receipt of test results. This is typically accomplished one of three manual ways. First, the results are faxed to a physician. Second, test results are entered into an individual's electronic medical chart, such as an EMR, and the clinician logs into the electronic medical chart to view the results. Third, test results are delivered to the ordering physician or nurse by a telephone call. For example, an MRI of the knee reveals a meniscus tear. The radiologist calls the ordering physician to provide results, and then dictates the report. The process is duplicate effort for the radiologist and requires phone availability from the ordering physician. Each scenario delays care because it requires users to purposefully (and manually) retrieve or deliver results. Each manual process is time consuming, costly, and significantly delays treatment of the individual. SUMMARY Embodiments of the present invention provide methods and systems for providing clinical information for a person, such as a test result, immediately and the information is automatically and immediately pushed to one or more designated devices associated with an ordering physician. The present system/method removes previous issues with generating notification alerts, accessing specified clinical information in a timely manner, and/or the manual processes that create bottlenecks in healthcare today. Patients may begin treatment earlier, providing the greatest opportunity for positive outcomes. Systems, methods and computer readable media for providing clinical notifications in a cloud-computing environment are described. The system/method/media is configured to provide access to a clinical notification management application via a cloud computing network that hosts a control server, wherein the control server manages the clinical notification management application; automatically generate, by the clinical notification management application via the control server, one or more graphical user interfaces that display a medical order screen having one or more user selectable clinical notification options that identify notification preferences that are assignable to (1) one or more patients being treated and (2) one or more notification devices for receiving clinical notifications based on the notification preferences; receive one or more user selections, via the one or more graphical user interfaces and the control server, representing the notification preferences selected including at least a type of medical result data relating to a patient for which a clinical notification will be generated; generate the notification preferences that are selected and assigned to the one or more patients and to the one or more notification devices, and store the notification preferences in a cloud-accessible database maintained in the cloud computing network; monitor subsequent medical data that is received into one or more electronic medical records (EMR) associated with the one or more patients being treated; determine whether the subsequent medical data received via the electronic medical records (EMR) for the one or more patients being treated includes data that matches the notification preferences stored in the cloud-accessible database including the type of medical result data; in response to determining the subsequent medical data matches the notification preferences, automatically generate in real-time, via the control server, the clinical notification and a notification route associated with the one or more notification devices assigned in the notification preferences; and transmit the clinical notification, via network communications, to the one or more notification devices based on at least the notification route to provide an alert to one or more users. In one embodiment, input is received by the control server representing a user selection of a multiple medical devices selected to receive the clinical notification option. In this described embodiment in response to determining if the subsequent medical data satisfies the user selection of the clinical notification option, the control server displays an event notification on multiple medical devices selected to receive the clinical notification option.
